What a loss for TPES if we were not able to keep our beloved Coach Sergio! He is a real superhero and I can’t imagine TPES without him. He has been so instrumental for the life of all of our three kids and a positive constant throughout their elementary school education. I don’t know a person who is more qualified to be a P.E. teacher than Coach Sergio.
The school administration should be supportive of our kids and always fight to have the best for them. As a parent, it is just impossible to understand why the school would let this happen…
Come on TPES, let’s just do the right thing and find a way to keep Coach Sergio: it is a question of wanting it and the community clearly wants this to happen!

Coach Sergio is awesome. Like many, if not all, former students of his, I will never forget the passion, energy, and kindness he brought to his job. It would be unconscionable to fire him over an administrative issue.

He is one of the best thing that TPES and the Y has. Very lucky to have him all these years. He is also a gentleman and I learn a lot from him on the way he teaches and lead the kids. I’m a tennis teacher myself and always curious about teaching styles philosophies and pedagogic methodologies. We really don’t want to loose him

Don’t water down great schools with great programs. There is no better person to lead the children in healthy exercise than Sergio. Protect his work and dedication to education!

At first I thought this was a cruel joke.
Sergio not teaching PE at TPES is unthinkable. He is an institution, beloved by generations of students, and he and all the students at TPES deserve better than this.
In the world where only STEM and test scores are valued, remember what Albert Einstein said…

Coach Sergio made TPES unique to all other public chain elementary schools. He is someone who made school enjoyable, and should never be let go

Coach Sergio is one of the best instructors that I have ever encountered in any subject and at any school.. His care for the kids, his enthusiasm for life and a sports life in particular, is simply unmatched. Anywhere. Coach Sergio is a living National treasure. He instructs soccer as an expert; he teaches yoga as an expert. The same for basketball, frisbee, volleyball, and track and field.
His TPES teams outperform all other La Jolla schools in the end of the year regional track meet year after year. Sergio leads by example and every student of his wants to be like Sergio in one way or another. 3 years ago I saw Sergio after school with a group of his students. I saw one kid hand Sergio a skateboard, then saw Sergio take a running start, throw the skateboard under him, and do a handstand on the moving skateboard for about 10 seconds, traveling maybe 50 ft.
TPES has won the lottery to have had Sergio's peerless, shining, inspiring example wash over generations of its students. Sergio cannot be lost. Without him, the student experience would be so so sadly diminished. TPES should spare NOTHING to keep him.
