God forbid a teacher gets 17 year old kids thinking about the world we live in. They are a year away from voting and making decisions on their own. People complain about how our education system does not challenge our students, then when a teacher does something to challenge them, people complain. I could understand a complaint if they were 5th graders who this painting might be too much for them to handle. I could understand a complaint if this was a freshman math class and this painting would be irrelevant to the subject matter. In this case, I think this teacher did nothing wrong; the painting and subject matter was appropriate to the class, the teacher didn't provide her own opinion, she provoked a thoughtful discourse, and therefore should NOT face disciplinary action.

I stand 100% behind a teacher that teaches children to think and form their own opinions!

She has created an opportunity for more than just her students to learn from. That is a teacher's job!!

Clausen is a great teacher and didn't mean this photo to offend anybody. Don't fire her.

There is an unfortunate need to bring these topics to light and have an open discussion about. As it is, teens need to be involved in this topic. Just because we don't like it doesn't mean we shouldn't talk about it. As an educator this person should be proud for bringing about a discussion far beyond the classroom. Bravo for having the courage to bring the issues the table.

Definitely overreacting on terminating her for a school assignment what laws did she violate this flag means nothing what most people think it does to begin with great assignment I agree 100 percent that she had the intentions if educating our youth what's wrong with that Disagree on termination or any Form of discipline whatsoever

She shouldn't lose her job over a photo that was used in an education way and is part of history no matter what anyone has to say, she never once told her students what to think about the photo, she is an amazing teacher she actually puts effort in teaching us students history and not make us work out of a book all the time

I personally never had her but I think that this is a great exercise for children to prep them for college.

I see nothing wrong with sharing a picture that encourages kids/ young adults to evaluate and form an opinion. Aren't we all forgetting that a lot of things that happened in history are controversial. To forget that events happened because they aren't comfortable would be an extreme injustice.

I'm not going to her class until she returns. The people complaining need to think about how the students feel not just themselves they sound ignorant.

This is outrageous. This teacher is made for great things inside and outside of the classroom.

Absolutely no reason a teacher should lose their job for asking students to think outside the box and providing them with a realistic portrait of the world we live it.

As a homeowner, registered voter and tax payer in Lyon County, I urge the board to not fire Clausen. Let the teachers teach!
