God forbid a teacher gets her students to think. It was a great lesson, I did it last year. She should not lose her job because of this!

It is so disappointing that a teacher is having to take a leave of absence because she was encouraging our children to THINK! The controversial artist captured history and how easy it is to recognize that although we've come a long way, we are still far from where we need to be. The picture reflects past and present situations that continue to drive a wedge in allowing us to become a united front.
The assignment allowed our high school children to think and become aware of the perception and realities for people past and present. I don't like this picture because unfortunately there is some truth that is reality! It is sad to see that no matter how far we've come, there is still so much work to be done!
This thought provoking material may inspire people to want to positively make a difference and change the world! It prepares them for situations that are a reality and COLLEGE readiness! If someone gets offended over this in college, they would be told if you don't like it or agree with the materials, then withdraw from the class! Shame on the parents ignorance and lack of ability to invest in your children to think about how perception can be someone else's reality!
Thank you Mrs. Clausen for being a teacher who is willing to take risks and teach our children by encouraging them to THINK! Thank you for going outside of textbook teaching! Dayton High School please do the RIGHT thing and keep teachers who TEACH! Provide options to parents by allowing them to move their child to a different class because they don't have the capability to think outside of the box. Those parents who continue to play it safe in a society where we need to promote risk takers are unfortunate for our future!

Mrs Clausen has my complete support! The lesson in question is a very pertinent use of symbolism for current events as well as past history ! It's supposed to be offensive and controversial as well as inspire critical thinking and discussion. She has succeeded in my eyes and many students are fully behind her! We can not cater to the weak minded and sensitive few that wish to control this with complaints and tantrums ! She does not deserve disciplinary action or termination! She deserves to be defended and thanked for her efforts to enlighten our young adults ... They are not children! ... We cannot teach by fear!!
I am a parent of a 2016 senior, our entire household is in support of Mrs Clausen keeping her teaching position !!!

Clausen is a wonderful person and is amazing at connecting with students to make class more enjoyable. The picture is a part of history and she did nothing wrong by showing it. I fully support her and I think that if she lost her job over teaching what she is supposed to, the school system is even more messed up than I thought before.
