Truth is truth. Being offended doesn't change that. she wants the children to think for themselves, and I for one, applaud her.

I support a free, open and inquisitive educational system. This image is not offensive, it is meaningful and was rightly included in this teacher's curriculum.

I would just like to thank everyone on here for the amazing amount of support that I have received over this issue that past few weeks! I could not have made it through this mess without you all and your encouragement! Especially from my students, both past and present! I have never been more proud as an educator of young minds and I am truly humbled by your support. Thank you! Ms. C

As Educators, you ought to see the irony of suppressing unpopular content within a Conservative community that abhors Political Correctness from the Left.

The fact that this is such a debate is absolutely ridiculous. We used to analyze and discuss cartoons like this all the time in school. There are far more important issues going on that need to be taken care of than this cartoon.

It's sad to think that a teacher who is trying to get kids to think is in danger of losing her job and that there is a school district that is so quick to suspend/apologize and doesn't realize what a gift they have. The picture was a real event in American history is worthy of discussion, except to a few small minded individuals who would prefer to hide from reality and condemn anyone who disagrees via social media. I applaud Ms Clausen and hope she doesn't lose her job over this incident, but if so, I hope she's finds a school district worthy of her passion and talents. Its things like this that makes you wonder why anyone would want to be a teacher.

It's ridiculous that a teacher may lose her job for asking students to discuss a picture -regardless of the picture.

As a teacher, I find it ridiculous that Ms. Clausen's job may be in jeopardy for bringing current topics into the high school history class and ask students for critical thinking and analysis. I remember seeing pictures of Nazi propaganda while learning about the Holocaust. This is not any different. Kudos to Clausen for getting our students ready for college and asking them to use their minds.

Kudos to Ms. Clausen for addressing a difficult and timely topic. No matter how many excellent police officers exist we cannot ignore the racism and institutional brutality of the minority. So proud that we have a teacher of this caliber in our district. Keep her if you can!!

First off can you provide more information on what the assignment was? This tells me nothing, other than she has provided a picture that defames a profession I was formerly in, and that picture isn't anything but inflammatory. Sorry a tiny paragraph of an explanation is well less than I need to decide to sign this, I value my right to vote far more than to sign just from this teeny bit of info. If she is losing her job, why? Just from this or were there more problems that led up to this? I have a feeling there is more than what meets the eye here so no, not signing. I'm surprised you have this many signatures without more information. But then again I'm a former white cop so many of you just don't get it.

Engaging our children to use their brains is vital for their development . We live in turbulent times and they need to explore and create ideas.

I think this whole issue of her losing her job is nonsense. Teachers should have the power to teach to meet the core cirriculum in a way that is engaging. She is not stating anything here, but asking for analysis and opinion.

Sheltering young minds from the propaganda and art that is out there is like telling them that babies come from the stork, they are going to find out anyway and now you've lost their trust. A teacher who is willing to present students with tough ideas and get them thinking about issues in our world is a teacher who is actually trying to prepare people for the world. Don't fire her for having a pair, thank her for doing what far too many people are afraid to do.

It is hard these days to find a teacher who will challenge their students,to make them think about what is in the world they will be challenged with when it is their time to step out into it. I have worked with many different teachers in my career as an interpreter for the Deaf and I will tell you this teacher is a keeper.Think she is good at opening minds. Kids need to learn how to think deeper. I think it is appropriate. Keep the teacher!✌Karen Case

Exposure to art and ideas in art is the only venue we have to get the underlying stories past those who would repress us all. Let the teacher teach.
