this is a must not only for Ch-ch but the whole of the South Island. Many tourists were travelling further afield.

Loved it this year. Best yet. Give the show a chance to build some momentum after the devastation of the earthquakes. We all deserve it.

As the winner of two supreme awards at the 2013 show and a silver award and silver distinction lighting award at this year's show I would like to mention the amazing opportunity this show gives local and international designers to be creative and inspire others. It is also an opportunity for the public to come and enjoy a day out in the sun, get inspired to garden and see some great ideas or even buy a new pair of secateurs. In 2013 I spent a whole week listening to people complain that the show wasn't that great and grumbling that they wouldn't return the following year. This year my experience was polar opposite. Thousands commented on how amazing the show was and that they would not only be returning next year but would encourage others to do so also. If the Christchurch City Council can stick to their guns and deliver another outstanding show next year then the show will grow to be the success that it should be, but if they give up now or don't commit the time and effort to make another amazing show, then their hard work this year will have been wasted. You cant expect a change in perception overnight. Hopefully those who chose not to attend this year will join the returning crowds next year to help boost the numbers to an economically viable position. Personally the reward to the local economy, to the 40 - 60,000 people who visit the show and the local designers is worth it even at a small loss, but I also understand that at times like these we must also be careful that money is spent wisely. Ellerslie 2015 is a wise decision!

Let it go now and it will be gone for ever. It isn't just the cash from ticket sales but the injection to the whole Canterbury economy. The local economy is very dependant on the agricultural sector now, the flower show is a chance for other sectors to contribute as well as be a showcase for the province.
