There are many other unpurposed areas that could be used to help meet more needs. This renovation to remove a squash court is unnecessary.

This takeover is not acceptable!
People who did the facilities research and chose a space, with walls specifically made for squash, to be a spin studio, need too be held accountable. We should ask for the bookings for spin Vs squash after a year.

It is so sad to hear that the decision to remove one of the squash courts at the YMCA has been made without input or consideration of the squash community, itself, in Sydney and the surrounding areas.
The sport is very social in nature and often a few groups of athletes will meet up together and spread out over a couple of courts and intermingle. Removing a court will make that impossible.
Trying to share just ONE court between all of the members who are eager and willing to play frequently is impossible, and extremely unfair, as they are paying members of the YMCA and deserve to have full access to their preferred activity. It will also mean that the YMCA squash club would never be able to host a tournament, as one court is simply not feasible.
On another note, in a building THAT big, is the squash court the ONLY available space to place the bikes? It seems very unlikely.
I am originally from Cape Breton and when I travel home, my husband uses the squash courts on a daily basis, so this change will affect him greatly, as well.
I hope that the YMCA will reconsider the change they're about to make. There surely must be another solution than to abolish one of the courts.

Our family of five have been members of the Y since the 80’s off and on depending family sports schedules . We started playing squash the year courts were built . Created memorable times for whole family , with tournaments , ladder play and casual squash nights with mix of friends . Many of these people were happy to pass tips for new folks .squash courts were very positive in our life .

It’s not fair that you are taking down one of the squash courts at YMCA. I started playing squash here for the first time and met a lot of professional squash players that deserve to raise their voice against this decision. You’re taking away the one thing they love. They enjoy the club facility as much as everyone else. Taking one court away would affect the essence of the game. It won’t be professional anymore. We have a lot of squash players. All of them cannot be accommodated for just one court. I’m sure the management can come up with an alternative. If not, then it shows management’s incompetence to prioritize their members needs.

I have a friend that plays competitive squash and have heard first hand the benefit the game has on community. It would be a shame to lose it to something like a spin studio which can be set up practically anywhere else.

There are other avenues for cycling but only the one for squash. Find another place to build a spin studio.

This is not a wise decision. A squash court costs upwards of $70,000 capital cost and is not mobile like spin bikes. Whomever is manking this decision needs to rethink it. There are also safety issues.

I just recently joined the YMCA myself and one of the details that caused me to chose the Y over gyms was the options. They had told us about the Wellness center, the pool, the gym and the squash courts. The squash courts were one of the primary reasons for my membership to begin with. I'm only starting and want the chance to learn how to play well and properly. Taking away the squash court will cut the amount of space and people who can play at one time in half and it puts everyone interested in an upsetting predicament where they lost a lot of opportunity.

Part of reason for joining the YMCA over other gyms is because of the squash courts for our family to enjoy. Please don’t take them away.
