The misnamed museum has been without a clear purpose or exciting layout and presentation for a long time - hence its poor visitor numbers. This is partly the fault of councillors who are now trying to close it. It is disgraceful that the public has been given so little time to protest, and even more so that Canterbury has no proper strategy for conserving and sharing its history and treasures. Complacency and philistinism are too frequent among those elected to represent us, and they should be truly ashamed of themselves - indeed, they should be held to account by everyone who cares so much more than they do.

This is a wonderful space reflecting the huge history of the city. It would be a massive loss to the community and tourists a like. It is good to see so much interest in developing the museum. Can't wait to revisit!

A town as historical as Canterbury must have a local museum. absurd to close it down. needs to be advertised more perhaps to get more visitors.

This fine museum has a number of very rare and important exhibits but more importantly is the building itself which must remain available to us all.

A lovely museum, a disgrace if it closes.

We can afford to keep this open , stop unnecessary expenditure such as those that don't work whilst being paid. and charge all foreign French students double !

As a regular visitor to Canterbury, and a traveler of the world, I can say without doubt that this resource is of global importance. It is so easy when you live with something and see it every day to underestimate it, but there is nothing like this in the world. England is one of the few places left that has the power and the political will to preserver its past and make it accessible to the public. Please keep the doors open to the public.

Museums and libraries are vital to the preservation of our heritage. They should be protected and aided in helping people access local history, not threatened with closure. I am not local, but I live in Kent and over the past 30 something years have visited Canterbury countless times to enjoy its many historical features, museums and the library.

Canterbury has an interesting history and needs to keep the museum for the residents , plus the many tourists who come. I am shocked at this proposal and feel it is a completely wrong proposal.

It is a short-sighted saving to cut museums. Canterbury is famous for its heritage - and not only the cathedral - and Historic England calculates the Gross Value Added of heritage to be £21.7bn, and heritage-based tourism to be worth £18.4bn per annum.

I know you're struggling with funding but surely you can't be so philistine as to close something to important and valuable to residents and visitors alike? The potential value for the community, education appreciation of heritage, tourists, etc. in far greater than whatever money you think you would be saving by closing it.
