This museum is of International importance and should be kept open. As an American, one of my goals is to visit it when I come to Canterbury. I am certain many others feel the same .

The Heritage Museum is a fantastic resource for the city. It houses some really important collections, and is a landmark building in its own right. It would be a tragedy were it to close.

This must be kept open, provided that it can be afforded in these difficult times for local authority spending. It MUST NOT impinge on more neccessary or essential services

This resource is owned by and for the people of Canterbury. Not to be seen as a profit making exercise, again.

This would be so good with the addition of an arts centre/cafe to add to its income and attract visitors

Are CCC unable to see the importance of BOOSTING the heritage infrastructure of this most important of historic centres, rather than looking to deplete it? Or is it that one part of the council is unaware of the strategies of the other? Absurd!

You'll only save pennies and deny the public the right to see their past.
Stop and think about what you are doing, if you don't , we, the voting public, will vote you out of office at the next election.

Shocking that this is even being contemplated in one of the cultural and historic jewels of Western Europe. What next? Convert the cathedral into a shopping mall?

I went along to the consultation and I understood that if the Marlowe take over the space as was proposed, they would use the building to widen and grow their community work as well as developing it as space that preserved and celebrated Canterbury's literary heritage. As far as I understand they also want to create a small venue and a coffeeshop that would open up this beautiful building to many more people.
The building has only been a museum since 1987 so it's not like they are closing something that has been there for hundreds of years. Key items from the collection would be moved to the Beaney where they could be enjoyed free.
The building costs a huge amount to look after and preserve and this could provide a really good option. I just think its all too easy to assume that change is bad.

As someone who has not only grown up in Canterbury, but who also studies history at one of the universities in the city.
The heritage of Canterbury is of the utmost import, Canterbury is surrounded in history, and I personally feel that this history must be told to future generations, not hidden or dismantled.
