Canterbury is a historic city and World Heritage site. All children love and learn from the museums. We must save them at all costs. Not to so is like 'burning the books'

The museum is the only venue where artifacts such as the material from the traditional Canterbury ironmonger's store - Woods - can be seen by the public to remind them of their local heritage.

Please, people work hard to keep the country up to date with history. Why close things that people use need, not only in Canterbury, but nationwide. Think long & hard please, history & heritage are for our future past.

According to the Council, Canterbury Heritage Museum attracts few visitors and those numbers are declining year on year. Last year there were less than 11,000 visits compared to over 330,000 to the Beaney, and this year (2016/17) we are expecting less than 9,000.
Are they playing fair. How many of the 330, 000 went there for the liibrary?
OK so the Beaney will always outsell the Heritage Museum in terms of visitor numbers due to its location. This is no reason to close the Heritage Museum which is undersold by the Council just as nearly all local musuems are. Canterbury City Council officers need to pull their fingers out more effectively.

I think this is a valuable little museum. We very much enjoyed our visits. Perhaps it could be made into a charity and run as such with volunteers?

How can Council even contemplate closing such an important contributor to the tourism and heritage of Canterbury? It must be kept open with all the support of offer from so many experts and academics.

Historic Tourism is found worldwide to generate income for the locality. A city as historic as Canterbury that has to rank among the best known should be enhancing tourism opportunities, not killing them off due to terminal and short-sighted stupidity in whatever guise it is cloaked.

As the "Founding Trustee of The Royal Marines Heritage Trails - Deal & Walmer" I am sure that as others learn of this proposal there will be enormous support for any proposal for the Community to work with Canterbury City Council to form a new Trust to apply to take over Operational Management of the Museum, its collections and heritage buildings in Stour Street..

Closing the Canterbury Heritage Museum would be an enormous mistake. Canterbury's extraordinary heritage and history have always been the primary factors that put this city on the map. Millions of tourists visit Canterbury each year to see its magnificent cathedral, and there is no reason why many of these visitors should not be interested in learning more about the city's fascinating story at the Canterbury Heritage Museum. All that is needed, as this petition suggests, are some fresh ideas on how to present the museum's fabulous contents and, most importantly, active and up-to-date marketing, turning the museum not just into a high-profile heritage centre but also into a financially viable institution.

This building should be saved at all costs, and the Canterbury City Council should do more to publicise it as a major cultural attraction. Ideally it should remain as a museum showing Canterbury's medieval collections as well as housing educational classes, talks, courses etc. There is even room for art exhibitions.
