As a historian and educator at the University of Kent, and as a parent, I hugely value the Canterbury Heritage Museum.

Canterbury Heritage Museum has to be preserved, nurtured and supported. An internationally recognised historical place such as Canterbury that has been a magnet and destination for pilgrims and visitors for centuries, cannot possibly be without a museum. It is essential for Canterbury's future status and meaningful development because any regeneration of this historical city cannot be successfully maintained without its Heritage Museum. The role and importance is not only local, regional and national but international and global.

I'm signing this not because I have any connection to the area, but because I worked in a similar museum, and I know the value of such places.

Why should a historically important city loose its point of reference and loose its hub of historical information, I'm disgusted that the council could think of this.

Please fund the Canterbury Heritage Museum. We need to keep places like this open and available to teach our children and grandchildren about their history.

Please do not close this wonderful museum. My 4-year-old grandson lives in Canterbury and I would hate to think that he would be denied the chance of learning about his city's history and heritage through the museum collections.

I think in a town so rich in cultural history it would be a shame to lose a place to learn about said history.
