The museum wonderfully tells the story of Canterbury from earlier times, the Anglo Saxons and the early cathedral, Thomas Becket and the pilgrims who came to his shrine, the Reformation, the Civil War, and life in the city in the 2nd World War. The story is illustrated with some fine objects such as some iron Age gold stater coins, the small Anglo-Saxon Canterbury Cross, a large Medieval church bell, 3 fine rose-pink column capitals from Becket's shrine, the Invicta steam engine from the old Canterbury to Whitstable railway, and a wonderful recreation of the study of the local writer Joseph Conrad. This is the story of our city, and it would be terrible if it were to be lost

Close your borders? Close your museums? Close your minds?
I'm sure you can do better than that

Should be saved but also admission should be reasonable for locals.

This is vandalism after contriving to reduce the numbers of visitors wanting to come in by increasing the price beyond the point people are willing to pay.

Closing Canterbury Heritage Museum would be gobsmackingly shortsighted. Use it better!

As an internationally important city and a very major tourist centre, Canterbury needs a museum dedicated to providing visitors and residents with a comprehensive history of the city.

If the museum was properly publicised signposted and staffed it would be successful. The idea that a 'virtual reality' alternative should take its place as reported in the Kentish Gazette is no an alternative. At the same time the Beaney would benefit from signs to say what is happening and where. It is pot luck whether one finds what one is looking for. A ventilator for the cafe would be a big improvement too.

As a Blue Badge Tour Guide I often take groups to Canterbury and feel that this excellent museum should stay open as it gives a good overview of the city's history.

I worked with the team which originally set up the museum. and would be very sad to see it go. However, it needs to be revived as a genuine walk- through experience of the history of Canterbury with artefacts redisplayed in a meaningful way. After all the Canterbury Archaeological Society has excavated a treasure trove of materials over the last thirty or forty years which is never displayed because of lack of space. !! Lead coffins, burial groups with outstanding pottery, brooches, the base of the great Roman gate on Watling Street at Riding Gate! A Mediaeval monks cesspit complete with contents and analysis of what they ate!! I could go on!! But the potential is huge. Unfortunately I don't think that Rupert Bear and Bagpuss really cut the mustard in the same way.
