What is BORC?
BORC (Burlington Outdoor Resource Center) is an old school that dates back to the 19th century. It was open for over 200 years! Now, this school belongs to YRDSB (York Region District School Board) so that their students can go there, and learn while playing outside. They also have a big property full of forests. While you are there, you learn a lot of new information for different subjects. For example, for science, you learn about nature, which animals live in Canada, etc... All the students in grade 2, 4, and 7 go there, and have different games they can play. For example, in second grade, you play "treasure hunt", in fourth grade, you play tag with omnivores, herbivores, and carnivores. Finally, in seventh grade, you play "The Amazing Race".
The problem:
The point of this petition, is to save BORC. In a couple months, there will be some construction of a long pipeline to transport natural gas (40 m in width) in their forest. This is very dangerous, but there is nothing we can do with it: it has already been confirmed. However, in 8-10 years, they want to extend highway 427, which means they'll have to demolish the 150 year old school, and destroy completely their forest. Us, the 7th graders of Julliard Pubic School, want to stop this. Other children will not get such an awsome oppurtunituy to learn something new and explore our canadian land. Also we are destroying the enviroment, and all those animals that currently live there, won't have any place to live. They'll die if they don't have a habitat!
Let's save a place that might not mean anything to you. But, for all the students of YRDSB, you are doing the right thing!

C'est quoi?
BORC est une vraie école historique des années 1800. Elle est ouverte depuis pour 200 ans! Maintenant, cette école appartient à YRDSB pour que ces eleves peuvent y aller et s’amuser dehors en apprenant. Quand tu y es, tu apprends beaucoup de nouvelles information pour des matières. Par exemple, pour les sciences, tu apprends à propos de la nature, quels animaux vivent dans les forêts de Canada, etc… Tous les éléves de 2iéme, 4eme et 7eme ont des jeux qu’ils vont jouer. Par exemple en 2eme année tu joues à la chasse aux tresors, en 4eme année tu joues aux herbivores, omnivores et carnivores et dernierèment en 7eme annee tu joues au jeu appelé “The Amazing Race”.
Le probléme:
Le point de cette pétition, et de sauver BORC. En quelque mois, on va avoir une construction d’une pipeline de gaz naturel (40 m de largeur) à travers le forêt. Ceci est dangereux, mais nous pouvons rien faire avec cela: elle a été déjà confirmer. Cela va détuire un peu de la forêt de BORC. Par contre, en 8-10 années, ils veulent aussi créer une extension de l’autoroute 427, ce qui veut dire qu”ils vont détuire l’école de 150 ans, et détuire complètement leur forêt. Nous, les 7iémes années de Julliard, voulons arreter cela. Les autres enfants perdent leur oppurtunité amusant d’apprendre quelque chose de nouveau et d’explorer notre terre. De plus, elle détruit l'environnement, et les animaux n’auront aucun lieu à vivre.
Allons sauver un endroit qui peut être n’a aucune significance pour toi. Mais, pour les enfants de YRDSB, vous faites le bon choix.!

we are almost at the hundred mark which is just wild to think about honestly since this started as such a small idea in my head (my brain won't stop spiraling about those bulldozers). if you have a second today just try to get one other person interested because i really need to show them that people actually care about this place before the highway plans go any further.

BORC is established in 1968, this is one of the oldest schools in Ontario and many endangered species live there. Their are also many habitats and we need to help protect these animals because the entire food chain can crumble.
Everyday going to elementary i wasnt looking forward to it however the day of borc my parents wouldnt have to wake me up to take me to school i'd wake them up •fun •learned more at borc than in school •stupidest thing to do would be to shut it down
Please save this amazing centre. So many great childhood memories. I especially remember the Hikes and the carnivore/herbivore game. As an Adult who will now be pursing teaching this is a valuable resource to teach children through play and nature.
This is a historical monument. You cannot tear it down. It teaches students valuable information about the ecosystem and older times. I remember my experience at BORK from grade 4 and I am now a University student. That is how valuable the lessons were. Please don't tear it down.
Now in second year university, more than 6 years later, I still carry the memories made at BORC. It was a great way to learn about the environment and bond with your classmates. Nowadays kids are so engulfed with electronics and I would hate to see these kind of grounded experiences being taking away. #SAVEBORC

I remember going there with my class from school. There must be something that can be done. It is a Heritage Building.

BORC has been a wonderful environmental institution dedicated to teaching students about the importance of the environment, and is more important than a highway extension for easier travel. Save BORC!
