Save Blake Lane Park

There are actually five large schools within a two-mile radius: Oakton Elementary, Mosby Woods (also off Blake Lane), Flint Hill private school, Flint Hill elementary, Oakton High. A sixth -- Providence Elementary -- is a little under three miles. This seems like an awfully high concentration of large schools, which explains mounting traffic delays on Blake, Chain Bridge and Germantown roads. Adding another large school (on a small plot) to this mix is really unwise and short-sighted. Let alone depriving folks of the only green space in the area!

I've lived in the immediate neighborhood for 26 years. I was so glad to move into an established community (one not subject to further development). Over the years, with Vienna Metro and the associated development; and time changes to school start times (Oakton HS), Blake Lane has become increasingly congested, ensuring that when the road is even slightly clear, drivers drive in excess of 45 mph between the highs school, Jermantown Road, and Rt. 123. I'm anxious to walk my dog along the road now, fearing for her/our safety as vehicles barrel along. Building an elementary school on Blake Lane will not only take away our green space, it will exacerbate traffic even further (pick up/drop off) and endanger childrens' lives. Flint Hill School is less than a mile away--why do we need another elementary school?

DO NOT develop this site. It would clearly impact the surrounding residential communities in a number of adverse ways.

Traffic with this school and the high school will be a total nightmare. Oakton ES is so close? I The neighborhood needs this green space.

Don't take away our precious park space to build a school; build the school on vacant property or expand Oakland Elementary School

This is the only Green space in the area and will completely destroy traffic for people going to the Metro/High School

I live in the neighborhood. It’s wonderful to have a big green field.

It's nice to see deer and foxes outside my windows in early mornings. A school at this location will drive these animals away.

We need the green space for our kids and the dog park

I live here and I and my fiancé have been contemplating raising children here. The park is something we thought we'd get to use with our children, but if this construction moves forward we'll lose one of the few parks in our immediate neighborhood.

I live near here and the traffic is already horrible. Just thinking about how bad the traffic is going to be with this makes me want to move.

This is a park that serves primarily apartments and townhouses. Unlike other communities, we don't have the luxury of retreating to our back yards. We rely on public space to play games and sports. There is almost no other green space in the neighborhood. The park acts to cool the the surrounding region--try walking by at night and you immediately feel the temperature drop. Additionally, local authorities will not be able to stop traffic on Blake Lane for a kiss and ride. That means Bushman will serve that purpose. With very few outlets along Bushman, none of which has a stop light, a school is almost certain to increase congestion, leaving residents in the mornings and afternoons with few alternatives to exit the housing communities.

Keep the park!
