The excessive commercialisation of the Park by Wandsworth Council is changing the very nature of the Park and conflicts with all initiatives over the last decade to restore it to being a haven in the middle of the increasing urbanisation of the Battersea Power Station development.

Formula E have been extremely underhand in the way this has been implemented. Their initial map of the circuit did not include digging up the grass to make the roads wider for the race cars. Once people had become comfortable that the track would not spoil the fabric of the park, they changed the plans at the last minute without telling anyone, to a new track that involved ripping up grass and replacing it with ugly tarmac. this is unacceptable

Totally support this petition - the way the park is being vandalised to make way for this event is noting short of shocking.

Ripping up areas of grass and planting that have taken years to establish, for an annual two day event, possibly with minimal support, seems crazy when those green areas had been, and should have continued to be, enjoyed every day by many people

I have been training at Battersea Park for well over 30 years and love the peace and tranquility of this Beautiful Park. The fact that this whole Event has become so established so quickly and without consultation of the people that live on and around the park reeks of underhand business operations who have obviously taken a huge punt on getting this to happen and hoping that people will just let it happen and not do anything about it? Firstly we must find out about all the meetings and any vested interest amd we must see all the minutes of these meetings. Then we need to see who they actually contacted as I know of 5 people at least who reside in the blocks around the Park and they have not been consulted once. We must find out if they tried to launch it in the Royal Parks? and the results and if they do not play ball ??? Well imagine this on the day !!! 8 or ten strategically placed teams of six to eight individuals and at the start of the race we all jump onto the track in a peaceful protest hand in hand across the road? There will be well enough of us to organise and implement this action and the only difference is that we have the honesty to let you know what we may intend to do unless you answer all our questions satisfactorily and I for one will be right at the front !!!

The park is far too important a part of the community for this decision to be taken without true consultation

Quite shocking that the Council can just start tarmacing over areas of a beautiful park seemingly with very little meaningful consultation.

A park is a park for quiet enjoyment, kids on bikes & family strolls picnics etc...not for tarmac noise and hoards of people defending for a few hours, then leaving their rubbish & heartache for the neighbours & friends of the park. Please leave this special space as it is.
