I used to play in the park a lot when I was a little girl. It holds a lot of wonderful memories for me.

We live just off Parkgate Road, no more than 250 yards from the racetrack. I walk in the park daily: our grandchildren play in it every weekend (as our children did before them). It has all the sports a great park should have - football, cricket pitches, athletics track, tennis, bowls, even boating - but car racing is NOT A SPORT. It is a purely commercial enterprise, with a passive, non-participating audience that is totally alien to the park's character and to its locality.

The trees, lakes, fields and fountains of Battersea Park are a balm of tranquillity and it is to get away from machines that we come here. The Council should not have let it be used as a race track which is the antithesis of what, in fact, it is. They are to be condemned.

This quite simply an ourageous misuse of Grade 2 * listed space the enjoyment of which is for the benefit on Londoners in general and Battersea residents in particular.

The first I heard of this was when I tried to cycle on the inner road this morning, 16th June, this is outrageously inappropriate use of Battersea Park. Whoever is responsible for allowing it should be prosecuted and sent to to prison.

This hardly surprises me. All over London the mandate of the Royal Parks - quiet contemplation and enjoyment -is slowly being eroded in favour of profit and yet they want to spend 30m on a new green space - the garden bridge. Yet in our existing spaces we lose swathes of them every summer concerts (then it takes all of autumn for the grass to recover) and now unbelievably, a race-track. all of which you can only 'enjoy' if you have a ticket. And then it takes all of autumn for the grass to regrow. The press etc all go on about London being the greenest city in the world which is why people want to live here, whilst proceeding to build all over it! However we now live in a city where profit comes before people. As for Wandsworth Council - it doesn't surprise me. Everyone keeps voting them in because the council tax is low but they keep it low by renting out the parks for things like this. Not to mention the billion $ development at Battersea Park - starting prices 500,000 for a studio and Kate Beckinsale and Sting amongst the buyers. Wandsworth Council has spawned these awful riverside mini-America flat developments all over the borough with private green spaces and fountains that no-one uses (but they do use the parks and commons) and the retail units in them are still empty three years later when they could be ground floor flats that people could live in.

We use the park everyday with our children and find this is really going to be a big problem for everyone.

Totally unacceptable to have committed to this event without first consulting with the neighbours that are directly affected by it.
