I sent this to the council leader last night before I knew about this - Dear leader, I'm writing to express my upset at the way battersea park has been ruined for the last week. When the council wrote and said the park would be used for the 5 day period over the event I assumed that would be all the disruption. Instead we have lost they park for what looks like 3 weeks at the peak of the summer and it terrible that a public grade 2 star space can be destroyed for private gain over the time that it should be available for residents of the borough. I feel that at have been lied to about this event and your test run that apparently was done early one morning misses the point. Firstly I doubt very much of racing cars were ever tested at full speed due to the lack of protective barriers. Secondly the noise Pollution was never an issue. The issue has always been the use of the park for private gain and this disruption and ugliness at peak time of the park in the annual calender. I appreciate that it will be exciting for those who are into racing, but for others who look forward to the park in Summer, it is really really sad to see. No doubt there is an automated response for this kind of complaint that will be thrown in my direction that won't address my issues saying something like my point of view is a minority one etc etc. But essentially the money you will gain from allowing the monopolisation of the park by the often rude builders works out very poorly of you divide it by time that the park is disrupted for. Pound for loss of amenity you'd be better off renting out a space in the park for weddings etc rather than this ugly disruption. I hope you think very strongly about the impact this kind of event has on the locality and the loss of amenity. Perhaps if you have to do this again, you'll choose to do it in a period of time that isn't the peak of calender. Sorry to say, but this has been very upsetting. Alex Chamberlin

Closing a huge London park for car racing is ridiculous. The fact that they're electric cars is a pathetic attempt to give it legitimacy. Sport = easy, sometimes questionable, cash. See: FIFA and IOC.

A disgraceful use of a treasured green space, used extensively by the community but arguably even more importantly by animals that have been forced out of their homes. A reckless destruction of the natural environment for a pointless cause - there must be better suited, more exciting locations for a race track in London?

At a time when the park should be enjoye, we who use the park year roun, are left to walk our dogs on what looks like a building site. Even the Chelsea Pensioners ground is out of commission at this present time, thus making all the local green areas a no go are.

Even though the notion of cleaner electricity is great the manner in which this has been done and the impact on the environment and peoples use of the park is pretty disgusting. As someone who loved their walk to work every morning the last week or so has been a misery.

It is totally wrong to do this in the middle of the summer and make the park unusable at such a glorious time of year. there are plenty of places people can go and watch motorsport - not in one of our favourite parks that is a refuge from all the hustle and bustle of London for many people.

It would make no difference. Work would take longer due to short days. Rain would make the whole area even more unpleasant. The park is used throughout the year and is totally unsuitable for an event of this kind -whether in winter, autumn, spring or summer. Alejandro Agag is an extremely wealthy man - son-in-law to the previous Spanish PM, wealthy business contacts such as Silvio Berlusconi and Flavio Briatore, and aiming for universal TV rights for Formula E. Let him pay for a purpose-built racing track elsewhere in London.

I watch in horror as our beautiful park is being destroyed. This cannot be allowed to happen again.

If they can't back out would they not consider holding the event in February not in the summer months when people really want access to the park

My young son, my dog and I are in the park everyday. We used to enjoy the lack of noise from cars as well as the trees, flowers, birds and the many good friends we have made there over the years. This race not only an huge inconvenience (roads closed, park closed) but also an absolute mockery of the purpose of a public park, particularly in the heart of such a big city as London. I understand Wandsworth Council needs money but this is NOT the way to go. Overall the park will be unhospitable, if not downright closed, for a month for some private, paying event. This is not acceptable - not amount of money can make up for it bor for the physical damage to the park of the psychological stress on the animals in the zoo (some of whom I heard had to be moved).

It is totally inappropriate to cause such disruption for 4 weeks to a park that is used regularly by so many people.

IT seems unreasonable to close off a London park for a private enterprise. Wandsworth council, please consider using the roads around Nine Elms rather than Battersea Park.

This will entail lasting damage to one of London's most important recreational areas in the heart of summer.

This is totally outragous. No proper consultation with local residents and a public facility closed. This is big business ruling again !!

As a regular sports user of the park (3 times a week at least), out classes have been put on hold for 3 weeks while the park is changed. Not only wasting my personal sports time but also my money for these classes.

This cant be allowed to cntinue - there is a Zoo in this park as well . in addition battersea dogs home use it and thousands of local people and this is summer!!
