I am horrified by the commercial use of our Open Spaces in London

no car racing in Battersea Park

not only has the park been 90 to 100% unavailable for weeks due to FormulaE but in the setting up the workmen repeatedly damage old precious trees and used bad language.

I hate this crap; why they shut my park???

This is the community's space, for the people to have a say. Not for the council to make a disishion with out the community being given the chance to disagree on our green spaces

The noise, the pollution, the loss of our park at the height of summer for a month, the fake eco credentials of an event with a giant carbon footprint...I could go on but on so many levels this event was on. Taking our park away completely at the height of summer was just the icing on cake. This is all about the vanity of Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag - friend of such fragrant businessmen as Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore. It is about corporate greed, not eco passion. How could you do this to a public park if you really had authentic environmental motivations? Jonathan Cook seems to be on a power trip to bask in the reflected glory of Agag (and Branson and Boris who unbelievably supported this - they've lost my support forever). How could Cllr Cook possibly have thought this would only cause a few days disruption? As I write serried ranks of huge lorries are queuing in the park to remove the newly minted (£2m, apparently) concrete barriers, another eco folly. The park stinks with petrol fumes (Formula 'E', you are joking) and the whole business just stinks. I hope the collective will succeeds and the break clause is implemented immediately. What a cause for local celebration that will be.

it has been utter hell living next to the park for the last 3 weeks, the noise of lorries and helicopters, the restrictions, the damage to OUR park. we moved here to be close to a park not an events venue

London parks are not supposed to be used for activities like racing, nor are they supposed to be dug up for the purpose of racing, nor are they supposed to exclude public access whether it is for a day or two once a year. Festivals and fetes open to the public fall within the remit of events in London parks, racing driving to exclusive visitors falls outside the remit of uses for parks.

Such a shame! I love running in Battersea Park and was disappointed to have the park effectively closed off

Local residents are often displeased when their local park is used to hold events, usually as part of it has been closed off. I was surprised to find that almost the entire park is closed to the public. This park was one of the reasons I chose to live in Battersea. I am not pleased that during the summer when the temperature is in the high 20's I cannot go to the park after working all day. While i stood at a shut gate for a minute I counted 5 joggers who were displeased that they could not enter the park. The fact that the entire park is closed has been my tipping point.

For Wandsworth Council to make and carry out a decision to use public areas such as Battersea Park not only for profit but to deny access to the public and council tax payers of the Wandsworth Borough is not only shameful and disrespectful to the community as a whole but an egotistical exercise in thinking that such decisions made are not of interest to the community which they reperesent. This event does not bring business to the area it brings business to the Wandsworth council and those who participate which is an insult to the kids especially in the variety of neighbourhoods which Wandsworth covers. It's interesting that there are a number of charitable events which are held in Battersea Park that I imagine cause few people to complain about which might be down to the fact that access to the Park to the rest of the public is not denied. What gives those few in Wandsworth Council the right to have the power to make such a decision with consulting the people that pay their wages? Eco friendly or not this show of disregard is un eco wandsworth community friendly and the council need to quickly resolve this issue.

Its summer. You live in a densely populated city with very heavy traffic. There are few green spaces available to the majority of people who dont have gardens. Who would decide to basically close one of the few big parks in london for a month to turn it into a racetrack??? It is very disingenous to say that parts of the park were open to the public. 90% of the park was busy under construction of 12000 concrete blocks for 4 weeks, and still is...... Generally london is good at managing parks and events, but this was really bad. Its obvious the councillors thought it would be two days to setup and two days to take down. It was not .. It is probrably out of action for about 5 weeks. So cancel the 5 year contract now you know what is involves. Why not have a grand prix on brown wasteland. or event on some actual roads. Building roads in a park is daft beyond belief

this is a crime against the citizens and the perpetrators should hang their heads in shame.

Disgusting

While except that one off events are held at the park with little disruption. To have it closed to the public for 4 days and at the height of summer is unexceptable. Dog walkers, joggers , families turned away and forced to use the pavements. Shame on you wandsworth council!. Ignoring the wishes of residence. Lets see what investment is put into the park!

this park should be kept as a park and not a space for wandworth council to make money out of events

It is appalling to see the damage, disruption and pollution caused by this event in an extremely precious green space in Central London.
