I am disappointed to hear about this. The Arts are not a luxury! They are the very thing that gives meaning to people's lives. Band programs build community and celebrate what is best in humanity. I understand budgets are tight, but if you're going to cut the arch you need to also cut math, science, athletics, and everything else. It's all important!!!

They just performed at the Open House on 5/7

As both an educator and community member, I believe access to music and arts education is part of a well-rounded public education, not an extra. Fourth grade band provides students with an early opportunity to build confidence, discipline, creativity, and connection to school. I support thoughtful budgeting and understand the financial pressures districts face, but programs that directly shape student engagement and long-term opportunity deserve transparent discussion and strong consideration before being reduced or eliminated.

Music is so important for young minds yet seems to be the first thing eliminated in many schools. It’s so important that children have the opportunity to engage in music not only at home but amongst their peers and through education. It has been proven time and again that having children engage in music early on strengthens their cognitive and creative skills. I myself and grateful to the opportunities and courage that music gave me in school. Please do not take away this important program for the young minds in schools today.
