You are affecting the future soul of Hawthorne. Anyone can check stats and scores to develop how the students compare quantitatively with a comparable town. Band is the uniting force from 4-12, parents and students, directors to teachers and countless of connections to vested interested communities in Hawthorne.

How dare this even be considered. The arts are very important. I was a part of my schools band and I have life long memories, friends and musical abilities because of it.

Having been a musician and private music teacher, I can attest to the need for children to have access to the arts. Find a way to make this work.

As a longtime member of the Hawthorne Caballeros, I am concerned about the potential music cuts in a town that is known literally across the country for its musical excellence. As a public school educator of over 20 years, I am even more concerned about the effect this will have on our students. Studies have shown that students who study music score better across multiple subjects, and develop an appreciation for the arts that is lacking in an increasingly AI-driven world. I beg of you to reconsider this decision for the benefit of your esteemed town and your cherished students.

As the parent of 2 former members of the Hawthorne Caballeros, I can't express how important a music program is to children. My older son became a professional musician and music director . I a retired teacher and always encouraged children to try an instrument or join a choir.

Music is the only place I felt like I belonged in school. Many kids are in those same shoes. Taking that away from them, somewhere where they belong, is detrimental to their growth. These kids will be lost without a place to call their own, with their own people. Without music, I would not have the people I have in my life, I would not be the person I am today.

I’m speechless to think that 4th grade band is on the chopping block. My 30 year old son loved band when he was 10. It led him to playing in a jazz band in HIGH SCHOOL. Not all children are sports orientated. Why not consider eliminating a sport? Not that I would want that but why the arts?

This is terrible in any town, but it would be such a shame to do this in the home of Cabs, of all places. I work in music now as an adult, and I can’t even put into words how important it was that I started band in 4th grade. You could be stifling a whole generation of musicians and music teachers with this decision. Please reconsider! Please put the kids first!
