Save the band and music program!

It is truly disheartening that we have come to a point where the 4th grade music program is being considered for elimination, especially given the positive impact it has had on so many children over the years. Elementary school is a critical time in a child’s development. It is the age when children are encouraged to explore new interests, discover their talents, and develop a passion for music and the arts. Programs like band and music education provide students with opportunities to learn discipline, creativity, teamwork, and self-expression, skills that help shape bright futures. The young minds in our community are the future of tomorrow, and Hawthorne is filled with incredibly talented children and young adults. As a proud parent of a child who was honored with the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall, I strongly advocate for preserving this program and respectfully ask that this valuable opportunity not be taken away from our students. Band is about far more than instruments. It is about nurturing young minds, building confidence, and inspiring future generations. Music is not just something children play, it is something that enriches the soul and strengthens our community.

Much needed for our children in schools. It helps mentally any physically as they navigate through life. As with Gym.

Music in schools allows students to learn and participate in a different group other than sports. Please keep the music program.

Its feels really shortsighted that an administration would even consider cutting a program like band. The earlier the better. 4th grade is one of the formative years. It makes better students. It connects students that might not normally run in the same circles. And the ability of a person to play and instument, read music and perform as a group are priceless skills they will take with them for their entire lives.

Hopefully there is a solution to help 4th graders be introduced to music earlier.

My oldest plays the trombone since fourth grade, now in seventh grade. If band was to discontinue, it’d be such a loss for all the kids who had a love for music.

Research demonstrates that education in the arts and physical education enhances learning the the more traditional academic areas.

The Arts are a Critical Part of a Well Rounded Education ..Music is a Form of Creativity , Discipline and Expression for Students… Dismantling the Band at the Elementary Level cannot Happen….This Budget Cut needs to be Reconsidered….Please Rethink this Option…Thank You…

Although I no longer have a student in the Hawthorne school district I speak from experience when I say that music education is essential in schools. It teaches so much more than music. Many students like me don't play sports so music is their outlet. I am not sure why music is always the first thing in schools to go. Maybe we can look for a solution and include other areas including sports. Please keep ,music education alive!
