Music education is paramount to learning. Get rid of the expense of chromebooks and get back to paper and pencils.

Please allow the children to keep such a great program that will allow them to follow out their dreams and ambitions! We have such bright students who would miss out on utilizing such an amazing program! Think of the children

Sometimes music and the arts are the only way to reach some kids! if it’s not happening in school, they may not get it anywhere else.

I went through the Hawthorne public schools and started playing flute in 4th grade. I continued on through high school and college and received a degree in Music Therapy. I have been a certified music therapist for 13 years, mostly working in hospice care. I wouldn’t be where I am today had it not been for those first years of band. Please keep this program, if not for the students, then for all the people your students will work with in their future careers. Not to mention, there is sooo much science and research behind the benefits of music; it would be silly not to have it in school.

I’m so thankful I learned the flute in elementary school and enjoyed playing it through high school! The arts are important and my time in band was well spent!

Band is an important part of music. The instruments are what build the music. As a former band student, band was really exciting. And the opportunities it provides are wonderful. If we take band away, we take an important piece of some kids life away. BAND MUST GO ON!

As a former elementary instrumental teacher, I have seen the importance of music in the lives of my fourth grade students. Their participation in beginning band and orchestra made a striking impact on their confidence and self esteem. It is a disservice to our community to reduce students' opportunity to participate in music ensembles.

Band or Drum Corps teaches you, besides great music, dedication, discipline, responsibility, commitment and teamwork! Please keep music available to the children!

band was one of the best things about school growing up and to do away with it for young kids would be a shame. Learning how to read music and develop a crucial ear for harmonies stimulates the brain & are amazing skills to take with you later into life.
