We need this value program to remain in our neighborhood school. Jean Young was a support of the arts and would expect a school with her name to be inclusive of all forms.

Being in the band at Southwest 1991-1994 was a game changer for my ear, and really my life. It gave me a sense of belonging and purpose. It’s because of the band I became a band parent to all 4 of my kids! Kids need music, not just radio or social media exposure, they need to know the composition and feel the way music comes together!

Playing an instrument allowed me to be a more well rounded individual. Expand my interaction with other students and introduced me to a great educator named Mr. Williams.

Art programs are vital to the development of children. Find the $$.

The Arts MATTER!!!!

My family has cultivated the teaching of the school band to flourish into musicianship to this day! My brother was crowned Mr Southwest while leading sports and academics, but most important the craft of the concert band He is Minister of Music at multi churches. My sister is and has been section leader throughout matriculation for years beyond learning at Southwest Middle School. My younger brother, drummer and member of Jean Childs Young band hosts many workshops bridging gaps in church music. I received Choral scholarships and perform nationwide but I am musically inclined due to the aid of band at Southwest JCY Middle School. Keep it going!

Performance arts are vital to children! Please keep the program!

I stand with JCY. I played the alto sax in middle school through college and I can say music has played an important part in my life.

Eliminating this band program is going in the wrong direction. Music education is a vital part of education.

Save the music program for our children

The arts fosters creativity and confidence. There should be nothing hindering young minds from growing and thriving, the arts allow that to happen.
