My sister is a former student of the program and credits them in aiding her formation of the outstanding entertainer and philanthropist she is.

At a time when music education is struggling to maintain support, even in communities that historically valued and sustained strong arts programs, advocacy conversations are more important than ever. Music education is not an extracurricular luxury. It is an essential part of developing well-rounded students and future leaders. Students involved in music programs gain creativity, discipline, collaboration, critical thinking, and perseverance. These are skills that directly translate into workforce readiness and long-term success. Research consistently shows that students engaged in music education perform better academically, graduate at higher rates, and are better prepared for future careers. Young MS (Southwest MS) Bands have always been the heartbeat of our cluster, making band the center of our community. Please save the Band Program at Young Middle School. As a former student and participant in the Band program, this was a vital part of my development and should remain in place.

I was a clarinet player in the band from 1986 - 1988 when the school was named Southwest Middle School. Being in the band and learning how to play an instrument actually supports a student's academic success. The student learns discipline, not just musically. But, by wanting to and having a desire to study their course work, as well. The other major vital part of the band is meeting and engahing with other like minded students who have a love for music and who I spire each other and even develop friendships for life. My band experience continued as I went on to play in the marching, concert and symphonic bands during my tenure as a student at B E Mays High School. I still have

I am a former member of the Southwest Middle School Band Program (incl the jazz band). The band program gave me an area to excel, to develop confidence, and a place of belonging which motivated me to come to school and do my core academic work.

Let’s save the music program. Music gives kids discipline, creativity, confidence, and opportunity.

Music education changes lives far beyond the classroom. Programs like this give children a positive outlet for creativity, build confidence, improve discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills, and help students stay engaged in school and their community. For many children, band becomes a safe space, a second family, and a source of pride and purpose. Removing this program would take away opportunities that inspire young people to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Every child deserves access to the life-changing benefits of music education.

Please understand the impact the ARTS have on students success !!

This band program has really helped my child elevate and it would be a harm to the community to see it leave.
