As a retired music teacher and Director of Fine and Performing Arts, I strongly support this petition and believe music for all and have witnessed the impact music has had on the lives babies, children and adults. With strong music programs, many of the problems our students are exhibiting would be decreased. KEEP MUSIC IN ALL THE SCHOOLS AND NOT FOR JUST FOR THE ELITE.

Band is more than music; it’s confidence, discipline, creativity, and a safe space for so many students to express themselves. Our kids need positive outlets now more than ever. Programs like this shape lives, build community, and give students a place to belong. Let’s protect that.

We cannot continue to say we care about our children’s future while cutting the very programs that give so many students purpose, discipline, confidence, and a reason to stay connected to school. Band and arts programs are not “extras” — they are lifelines for students who may not thrive in traditional classrooms but discover their voice through music, creativity, and performance.
These programs teach teamwork, responsibility, dedication, and self-expression. They keep students engaged, out of trouble, and inspired to dream bigger. For many families, band and arts are the reason their child enjoys coming to school at all.
Removing these programs takes opportunities away from students who deserve the same chance to grow, create, and succeed. Keep the band program. Keep the arts program. Invest in our children, not just academically, but creatively and emotionally too.

I’m a product of APS and was in the band program from 3rd grade until I graduated high school at BTW. This program mentally, socially, and physically shape the minds and bodies of the youth. It gives them and outlet where some kids don’t have one. Please continue shaping out young people through the arts programs. Don’t take it away from them.
