My daughter Sloane Polzien is in the ASL program. It means a great deal to the both of us. ASL is a wonderful language and should be continued to be taught.

as a former student of HWHS '10 i was privileged to be in ASL 1 with mrs. Hazen. i may not have took 2,3 because of my schedule, but i can say that what i did learn i have taken it every where with me. my neice had delayed speech as a toddler and was advised to learn ASL. Thanks to my ASL i was able to use what i know to teach not only her but also my mom who is her legal guardian to be able to communicate with eachother. how to say she was hungry..or she wanted water..how to say im sorry when wrong and i love u before going to bed every night. she now is better at her speech due to therapy, and is able to talk correctly. but as a 1st grader that she is, she hasnt forgot her ASL i was able to pass it down to her. and she is now teaching her 2yr old sister. so im thankful to my asl class and my instructor mrs hazen for the patience she had with me. for making sure i learned how to sign...and how to do it the correct way....without offending the deaf... she was always patient to my questions and i appreciate how she taught me. Today i am able to apply ASL to my everyday tasks as well as resumes when applying for a job. Hanford West should NOT give her the boot! especially because she was sick. We Greatly APPRECIATE MRS HAZEN...IT WOULD BE A MISTAKE TO LET HER GO :(

The ASL program at Hanford West is an important program because it gives students the ability to communicate with Deaf people even after high school graduation. This is an important skill that could possibly be needed for when a student is working in a job and needs to communicate with a Deaf customer. I was a part of her ASL 1, 2, and 3 classes and graduated in 2013. Mrs. Hazen is a great teacher and is passionate about her job. She has definitely given me the ability to communicate with Deaf people.
