Amicks Ferry Road already has so much traffic. I'm just not sure that the location was completely thought out with our board members.

No new school on Amicks Ferry - traffic is already at a dangerous level and it would destroy further wildlife refuges within the area.

Definitely oppose proposed location on Amicks Ferry for the new elementary school. Plenty of better places within the district to put a school including the property the district has already purchased

Agree 100% - Amicks Ferry road proposed site is not a good choice for a school as the traffic is already bad & will only get worse as the area grows...even at the rate it is without yet another school! The road(s) would have to be upgraded & turn lanes/traffic lights put in for it to even make logistical sense to anyone involved.

I live near the end of Amicks Ferry Road and it already takes TOO much time to get to town.. To add this tremendous amount of extra traffic will be an impossible situation..

What's discouraging is that, along with the developers, District 5 has been spending an enormous amount of effort (with our tax dollars) on selling "Chapin" schools. It seems to me that if it's even a good use of taxpayer dollars to sell schools, it should be done in the Irmo area, where schools have declining enrollment and some are less than half full. But then again, for decades the effort in District 5 has been to build new schools. But, since 2006-2007 (the year before the $243 million bond referendum passed), District 5's total enrollment grew by only 184 students (budget went up $54 million). Irmo High is down 600 students. New schools may be needed (but not on Amicks Ferry Rd. -- Chapin El actually declined in enrollment) and may be best option but, before new schools are build, do the due dilgence. If your interested, here are the enrollment stats from D5's website (http://www.lexrich5.org/Page/14088). Look at the total for each grade and how it's changed and the total for each school. (Note most elementary schools have core capacities build to accommodate 1,000 and most are designed for classroom additions.)

That is not a good idea. There are countless outlets onto this road. Visit and see. Come out and let someone show you. It would be a nightmare.
