Dr. Hefner is a crook. He's the fat kid that ate all the cookies when his nanny wasn't looking. Well, Dr. Hefner - Your Nannies are looking now. We see the opacity in your drive to develop this school. With many viable alternative options; it shouldn't take a petition to open your eyes. The writing is on the wall Hefner, your time is up. Agreed. And epitomizes their lack of ability to correlate between the cost of staffing and operating new schools and an ever-increasing budget (tax increases) with whatever student enrollment growth there is.
Budget increase*: $120 Million (2007) to 182 million (2018 just approved) = $62 million
Student Enrollment Increase: 16,567 (2007) to 16,822 (2017) = 255 Students
Number of New Schools since 2007: Four
Not saying I'm opposed to building new schools. I just want them to make good sound business decisions with our money. And, if they have really done their due diligence and are being stewards of our hard-earned money, they should be able to show us how they came to the conclusion that with all the options available that #1 - factoring costs and enrollment projections, that a new school is the best solution to relieve the need for additional classrooms at Lake Murray Elementary; and, #2 - that a new school on the other side of Chapin Elementary is the best location to relieve the need at Lake Murray Elementary; and, #3 - Amicks Ferry Rd. is the absolute best location for that school. None of that was presented before they entered into the Option and Purchase Agreement in January 2017 or since that date.
*Operating Budget (Excludes the cost to buy land and construct school.)

I have signed onto this petition because of my perception that there has been a lack of transparency by the School Board to respond to questions from the very people they are supposed to represent and who vote in school board elections. I am very concerned about the costs associated with the potential purchase of the property for the proposed school, and the minimal response to questions by my neighbors who reside in the Amick's Ferry corridor. If answering questions and providing meaningful feedback is not a priority for the school board, then I have to believe the school board members are not interested in the community members' concerns, thoughts and desires. The Board can prove me wrong by extending the deadline for making a decision and providing answers to the questions asked by community members.

I have always supported the excellent schools in Chapin, but cannot condone building a superfluous school on Amicks Ferry Road. The location is impractical. The school is not needed in this area. And the reasoning is suspiciously profit-minded. I ask the school board to vote no on this build.

As an educator, I firmly believe that a school should be placed on other land. As an advocate for education, such a school as one on Amick's Ferry should be thoughtfully and carefully planned so that it has meaning to the surrounding area. This can not be any regular elementary school if it is to be placed in such a rural-looking area.
