The reduction of staff at Delta has resulted in fewer opportunities for connection between students and teachers to support student well-being, including mental health; fewer opportunities for student voice; fewer extra-curricular activities, fewer opportunities for smaller group instruction, fewer opportunities for differentiated and alternative programming, and fewer opportunities for the development of student community, leadership, and belonging.

Yes, yes, and yes. A 2.5 staffing allocation for any school is simply not sustainable, for so many reasons. People working in the TDSB know this. The decision to cut staffing was clearly a numbers game and didn't give any real consideration to the logistics of building a healthy school community. A minimum of 3.0 teachers is required. That way, the Board can start looking to them as replicable models of micro-schools for which there will be an increasing demand, especially when we start to feel the full mental, emotional, and social impacts of pandemic schools, let alone academic ones. We need these schools more than ever. They are a fantastic investment for the Board when they look at the bigger picture. It's time!

Alternative schools are a flagship feature of TDSB that serve well the many types of children whose individual needs and circumstances mean tailored, diverse and innovative teaching approaches and settings make all the difference to their long term flourishing. What a small investment it would be to properly fund these wonderful schools and what a rich long term return to society would be ensured for an equitable, diverse and creative future led by kind leaders who will be empowered to give back in proportion to the quality of the education they receive.

All alternative schools need adequate staffing to support all learners. 2.5 teachers at Delta Alternative is not enough as well. Support teachers and students.

I see the difference of 3.5 or 4 teachers at Delta for my son in 2018, down to 2.5 for my daughter at Delta now. It makes a difference. That combined with Covid restrictions makes school a lot less engaging. Increase the number of teachers.

Alternative schools are real TDSB public schools and they need enough teachers.

My child has an IEP and does not get adequate support in the school at the current staffing level - City View and other alternative schools need adequate staffing to support all learners - from one I understand - Equity, Well-being and Achievement are the pillars of the TDSB - accommodating students with IEPs seems to fall under all three.

We need more diversity in our pedagogy not less. Many kinds of learners from many communities means we need many options!
