I have come to love Alice's Road. It would be a sad loss of Waukee's history and a loss of a celebrated woman!!

I have only lived in Waukee for about 6 years, but I feel that the history of the Waulee area is something that needs to be preserved. I do not feel that we need to forget an important part of that history just to please rich developers and arogant city officials.

I have so many fond memories of Alice's from growing up...family dinners, birthday parties, and special occasions. Alice's was a family restaurant in every sense of the word-and working at Alice's was a memory I will always treasure. I graduated from refilling fountain drinks to washing dishes and eventually waitressing. Alice's was truly about the history of Waukee and the families of all those who dined there. Every single person who came into the restaurant had a story to tell--whether they were regulars who had been there for years or newcomers for the first time. These stories are the voice of Waukee residents and are an integral part of this town's history. Alice may have been the woman who created the space for these memories, but the memories themselves that were built are a part of the history of this town. In addition to amazing food, this is why Alice's lives on today. It has been 15 years since I left Iowa, but until it closed down, I returned to Alice's every chance I could. Just a few months ago, I flew back to DSM from NYC for an extended stay so that I could take some time to show my husband where I grew up. Alice's Road was one of our first stops. He has been hearing about Alice's since our first date, but the one thing that stood out to him the most about this experience was the street sign with the name, "Alice's Road". He asked me about it with surprise because it stood out to him as a testament to the importance of Alice's not only to me, but to the city of Waukee and the people who live there. Please do not take away a part of our own lived history.

We cannot allow "developers" to change our history and heritage on a whim.....for resons that are trivial and without purpose. Joanie Mitchell said that they will " Take Paradise and put up a parking lot".....there are shallow heartless people who took that as their life's purpose. We must have a say in thedecisions.

Please save Alice's Road. It has been called that my entire life, even when it was a dirt road & even before it was 'officially' changed to Alice's Road. It's a landmark in Waukee. Don't change the history

Please keep Alice's heritage alive. Everybody knows it as Alice's road, why change such an importent piece of history! The people drawing up the plans have absolutely no connection to the history of Waukee. Apparently, neither does our mayor.
