It should be left as Alice's!!! Why does everyone to change things that as everyone has always known?! Waukee was a small hometown. Now all everyone wants to do is keep up w/ West DesMoines, Clive, Urbandale, & etc.!

Thank You to all who have shared, signed and expressed passion towards this change. We were all blessed to have been raised by all the families in small town Waukee and for the memories we all grew up with. Shows you that it was indeed a very special place to grow up.

The new area or corridor will be called Kettlestone. You can see more proposed images at www.kettlestonewaukee.com. There was no mention of them changing the street name, but it appears that West Des Moines south of I80 and Waukee north of I80 at the next exit do not agree on the name. WDM does not want it to be called "Alice's Road". They appear to want to keep the road North of Hickman to Hwy 144 to remain "Alice's Road", but that has not yet been finalized. The proposed area looks amazing, not sold on the name yet and hope that the city officials fight to keep the entire road "Alice's Road". The website explains why "Kettlestone", but you have to explain it to everyone. I think that the WHO-13 interview that Mayor Peard did caused a lot of confusion when he stated that the name "Alice's Road" did not fit with the image he wants to portray for the area. Thanks to Shelly Hughes for being the only city official that I have seen even respond or address any of our concerns and to clear up Mayor Peard's confusion in the interview. So now it appears that WDM has a problem with the name "Alice's Road" as well. :)
My grandmother and great-grandmother both worked there for years! I grew up on their food and miss it!!! The name should NOT be changed!!!

Shame on you City of Waukee ~ you've jacked a lot of things up but this goes one step too far ~ why can't you respect the foundation on which our city was built, long before most of us (myself included, although I'm going on 28 years here so I'm pretty much a townie) moved to town? That foundation consists of hard working individuals who built our town, raised their families here and created a business economy here. Shoot there are prime examples of that community respect showered all over the names of our elementary schools because of those who came before us. Show some respect, don't strip the name and cave to the rhetoric of developers who want a trendier, sexier name for something that means nothing more than another dollar in their pocket. When they've moved on and they stop showering you with the love and attention you've been craving since you botched the land deals to create that bridge to nowhere, ok'd all the strip malls that are popping up, taking away from the uniqueness that is Waukee or denying businesses the right to conduct business (the vineyard ring a bell???) ~ you'll be left with what, a no-name corridor that doesn't mean jack to anyone. If you really want community support, why don't you put all that cash you've wasted on studies, surveys, plans and road improvements, oh wait, scratch that last one because you've invested nil in creating a more sound infrastructure to accommodate all the traffic that flows through Waukee each and every day (& no, I'm not taling about Hickman or University ~ I'm talking about the roads that lead to our schools & all the chaos that ensues each morning because of the ridiculous traffic jams) and put it into the same things you've studied and examined from every freaking angle like a sports complex, complete w/ a pool, you know, that pool you were supposed to put in when you bought the Golf Course (don't get me wrong, Sugar Creek is a nice investment but it's not a pool) the pool that I've been hearing about since I

getting rid of a piece of history no matter how big or small and in memory of someone who was a Waukee pioneer who helped make our city what it is today and her family still today is active in our growing city would be a great shame.

This is my comment on the councilman's wall...
I feel this should be voted on by the citizens of Waukee. I can guarantee you the majority will NOT want the name to be changed! Alice's Road, needs to remain just that! It is a part of Waukee's history. For those MANY of us that know the establishment that was once enjoyed on a weekly basis, just seeing the sign brings back great memories. For the younger generations and new comers to the community, they quickly learn why it is called Alice's Road. Many people who are not from here have asked me why it is called Alice's. It makes for a great conversation starter, on one of the best pieces of history Waukee has ever had. My youngest son does not remember eating there, but he knows what is was, where the (now a home) restaurant stands, and why Alice's Road is called Alice's Road. To change that would be a disrespect, not only to Alice Nizzi and her family, but also to the entire community that once enjoyed mealtimes there. Call it what you want, on the South side of University, but as for the North side, the name needs to stay Alice's Road. Please listen to "We the people". It's our community. It's a much beloved part of our town history and personal history! Thank you.
