Developers are proposing building townhouses inside Alamo Cement Quarry, a site where Cementville, Texas once existed. This location is an important part of the history of San Antonio and a promise was made that it would remain open space.
Also, developers are proposing changing zoning to high-density mixed use to build a high-rise structure with hundreds of new apartments.
Help save our quarry and say YES to keeping it as open space without the changes that threaten its historic character and will bring more traffic to an already heavily congested area.

I have spent my mornings walking the trails near the quarry thinking about how much of our local history is about to be buried under concrete. Your comments keep me going because they prove that I am not the only one who cares about the soul of this city.

Seeing this level of support for the quarry site is overwhelming because my grandfather spent his working life in that space. The momentum behind protecting this history proves that I am not the only one who refuses to let our heritage be paved over for another complex.

This has to stay open. Reason being, my grandpa grew up and worked there. My family, including my mom lived there as well. It's a historic place not only to our family but many others that lived in cementville
They should have tried to keep more than the smoke stacks and a piece of machinery. They should also keep their word.
I grew up hearing stories of old Cementville from my mom and aunts of how they'd play with everyone in their neighborhood. Most of the people I call family aren't even blood, they were just close friends of mom when she was growing up. To desecrate what used to be Cementville with more high rises is to show disrespect to everyone who lived there and everyone who grew up learning about such a tight knit neighborhood.
Please Save Cementville a beautiful place where I grew up. Where kids could go out and play anytime of the day or night and where we all knew everyone person living there.
It can't be allowed to build townhomes or whatever else, this is part of a lot of our Hispanic history and should be recognized as such.

My grandparents, Felipe and Cirila Rangel and their family lived in Cementville. My grandfather, Felipe worked in the quarry. Many of our relatives still reside nearby and are members of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church.
