There is so much to love about Akimel: their dual language program, teachers, admin, extracurriculars, and community. Families who chose Kyrene specifically for Akimel’s high-performing academics, beautiful campus/athletics fields, and specialized programs may reconsider their commitment to the district if asked to relocate to a campus that does not offer comparable opportunities. This risks a further decline in enrollment, undermining the very stability the district is trying to achieve

Akimel Middle School has been an excellent school & a benefit to living in this community for years. It’s important to our kids to transition smoothly from Elementary to High School & this school that focuses on only 3 grades has done an excellent job.

Amazing things happening at the school. The duel language program for the elementary schools coming out of Lagos is housed here at Akimel. The district has decided to keep to dual language elementary schools open. They should strongly consider keeping the two dual language middle schools open. I know many parents will not send their children outside of our Tukey, even if that meant continuing to a language. Let’s continue to focus on global education for Kyrene district students and keep Akima open.

Akimel is a highly rated school, with one of the largest student populations in the district. It is centrally located right off the freeway. Ahwatukee is building an estimated 300 homes in Upper Canyon, where will all those children go? Altadena has a much lower student population and isn’t centrally located. Centennial is also difficult to drive to. The planning and roll out seems very rushed. At the very least, close the schools in tiers and learn from successes and failures.

I don’t want this school to go down, millions of houses nearby would have to go miles out of their way just to get their child to school.
Please keep this school open
