The city of Jacksonville Beach is planning a well-needed makeover for Gonzales Park. However at this time all designs call for the removal of both diamonds AND the basketball courts. The diamonds are used frequently. We believe leaving the one in the northwest corner will still allow for the accommodation of additional activities in the current green space and space created with the other diamond. There is already a shortage of public diamonds and spaces for JBBA and Northeast Florida Girls’ Softball to practice. Let’s keep one at Gonzales. As a former parent and coach for NFGS I find it disheartening that another resource for the girl's softball association is being removed from the parks. I know other sprots also use the fields for practice and other activities and don't see why 1 diamond couldn't be kept.
Played ball there as a kid when the other fields were full up on the days our coach could get off work. This is a natural resource that can’t be replaced. If the ball field is replaced with other things, there won’t be any open areas large enough for kids to play in groups.
My daughter played for years on that field for years and learned to pitch from the late John Baxter who worked for the city of Ajax Beach.
Fields are at a minimum as it is around Jacksonville. They are used for more than softball or baseball. Many families use them for picnics and also to play kickball . Leave it for the kids.
Please keep at least one baseball/softball Diamond at Gonzales Park! I live a few blocks from this park and take my kids there and use the softball Diamond with my daughter. Thanks, Brent
Having witnessed the same government think destroy girls, adult and seniors softball in Hanford CA, The teams ended up with NO practice fields and that killed the leagues. Stand up be at the Jax Beach council meetings, get on the news. Don't take the easy road, like a ball game it is strategy and skillful execution that wins. Good luck to all.

Played here since I was 7 years old and coached many teams here now that I’m in college! This is a great field with many memories! The fields always have people practice & the courts always have neighborhood kids enjoying time playing pick up games! Leave the fields!
