The collaborative nature of Ask a Librarian allows Florida librarians to offer chat reference service to patrons many more hours each week than any one library could offer alone. The elimination of Ask a Librarian would severely limit the availability of chat reference, a service many users prefer or even expect.

Ask a Librarian allows both public and academic libraries to offer our patrons reference help 7 days a week, which most libraries could not do using just oour own staff. It is a valuable resource for all of us!

As a librarian who volunteers on Ask a Librarian, the service is a priceless tool that enables us to provide services to distance learning students who might otherwise struggle to reach the library.

As a librarian who volunteers with AAL, I see the impact of the service every day. Students get thier questions answered, patrons get help renewing, accessing, and finding materials, and the state, as a whole is improved because our citizens can get the answers they need from trained professional librarians.

I have dedicated my entire adult life to public libraries of Central Florida. Ask a Librarian is an indispensable tool for now and will only be more relevant as we move further into the digital age.

If we are serious about educating people in the state, and operating in the digital information age, it's essential that we keep virtual reference service available. It not only serves students with reference requests, but serves local library patrons by supporting questions about hours, locations, renewing items, getting library cards, and many other essential functions. We'd be foolish, indeed, to shut it down.
Our students depend on this service.
