SAVE 35th AVE NE

I don't understand why bicycle lanes can't be a street or two over, rather than causing local shops to lose business! That's what happened on Roosevelt Way--a lot of shops closed. Privileging a few over the common good--not fair.

Please do not make bike lanes on 35th! It is not going to be safe for bycyclists. Besides the impact on residents and business.

Please stop this proposed bike lane! It will make traffic and parking much worse for a lot more of us than it will help! I live in the neighborhood and dread facing more congestion in driving. Existing street parking is already tight!

Bicyclists already have safe alternatives in and around 35 Ave. You have ruined other streets and bottlenecked traffic all over town. I say no way!

This is appalling. To say that bike lines have a positive or no impact on small businesses is absurd. Small businesses in this area, many of them established with no off-street parking, are dependent on adequate parking, which, unfortunately, is on-street. To cite the study done by the UW student who later got a job with SDOT is a conflict of interest. Frankly, this is an unfortunate waste of public resources when the lanes could be striped on 38th Avenue NE. Furthermore, what percent of the city's bike users actually travel 35th Avenue NE? When you look at the cost of designing and actually painting the bike lanes and divide that by the projected number of users (and the highest number of bike commuters has been about 6% of all COMMUTERS), that is an absurd cost per rider, that is, a disproportionate use of resources. I find the activities of the bike lobby most unfortunate - that one group that is not event part of the impacted community could have that much sway with SDOT - and the Mayor's Office. I think that a full analysis and Declaration of Non-Significance petition is well in order. I am busy with four grandchildren, but would like to help. This really pisses me off. Liz Rankin

It is outrageous the lies that Council members now routinely feel they can indulge. But more worrisome is the inbuilt prejudice in the SDOT that "they" know everything and ar in charge, versus they are civil servants who do the will of the electorate.

Would gladly help to collect more.

I feel that we have existing bike routes through this neighborhood on non-arterial streets that are safer than bike lanes would be on a busy avenue such as 35th. I am a cyclist as well and would not want to ride on 35th even with protected lanes if I have the choice of taking alternative routes on side streets that parallel 35th.

Please do not put bike lanes on 35th. Neither the neighbors or the businesses want them. Please listen to your constituents!

Common sense needed by SDOT

long time resident Hawthorne Hills. This will create another/new traffic nightmare in our neighborhood.

Rob Johnson will be removed from office.

We already have an expensive dedicated bicycle facility on 39th Ave NE. Seems like another waste of our tax dollars to create a duplicate facility.

Do not eliminate parking or install bike lanes on 35th.

This is poorly considered. There is good bike access in the area already. The city must be wiser with it's capital funds. This is not a good use of city resources.

Removing parking on 35th Ave NE adjacent to NE Branch Library removes viable library access. Already, all parking frequently is taken behind the library, and on both sides of 35th. Without access to parking, the library just won't be available or accessible.

I have already sent my opinion to Rob Johnson. He's kind of worthless.

Mayor Durken, Stop the Bike Lanes on 35th! listen to your citizens!

This is not a good plan. Leave 35th alone.
