In a major speech on energy at Georgetown University on June 25, 2013 President Obama asked students to "help in keeping the United States of America a global leader in the fight against climate change." This petition is our response.

Extraction of fossil fuels does irreparable damage to the planet and pollutes our air and water. Burning those fuels causes more pollution and contributes to climate change. Investing in this industry makes Savannah State University an accomplice to the destruction. It is wrong to wreak havoc with our planet and it is equally wrong to profit from it.

We are calling on the SSU Foundation to:
* Immediately stop any new investment in fossil fuel companies.
* Divest existing holdings within 5 years.
* Reinvest the money in climate solutions such as energy efficiency and renewable energy to promote the green economy.

We take this action in the interest of accelerating the transition to clean, renewable energy and a better future for us all.

Respectfully,
