I am disabled. I have to get to Seattle back and forth. I have no internet i dont use cell phones and I can't afford to pay extra fees. my rights are being violated by not letting me leave the island as i wish. being disabled living on social security the fees we pay are too much we need to have lower rates for local people

The reservation system is geared toward tourists. There should be preference given to locals. Also, 90% is too high for reservations. Somewhere closer to 70% would at least even the playing field for locals and spontaneous trips.

this system leaves out the disabled, the elderly, at risk families and anyone else who does not have access. Our networks go down periodically, our phones don't work in many parts of the islands. This system discriminates when people are not counted. Non medical emergency off island appts can't always be predicted in advance, leaving some without the medical care they need. There is NO room for last minute 'get off the island' trips. The stress level in trying to remember the schedule dates and all the rules are at times overwhelming. We are a country where our human rights count............with this system 'we have NO rights'...

The ferry reservations input period was not intended for input from islanders. It was to tell islanders that it will work. It is more complicated to go off island and our complaints are dismissed.

The reservations are always full, I can never get home on Fridays to see my widower-dad. The online system crashes often. It doesn't accommodate spur of the moment travel plans at all!

I don't agree with the fees. I understand that there is tourist season, but my paychecks don't get bigger just because there are more people on the islands. Island residents should get a resident rate, that's consistent throughout the year, barring changes for inflation. There also needs to be some kind of priority system in place for necessary trips (e.g. doctor's visits).

From what I've seen, I would argue that the reservation system lacks accessibility to Island residents, who usually plan their trips the day of, and favors the plans of tourists who plan weeks ahead of time. I've ran into problems with every trip off Island since the res. system has been in place, because as someone who actually lives here, most of the time I don't know my travel dates until the day of or night before. The biggest problem I have with this lack of accessibility is it's impact on my mother, who is disabled. I filed a complaint to WSDOT regarding the res. system when my mother got a call from her treatment facility one day in January. They called her in for an important medical treatment that was overdue, so we immediately tried to make a reservation for the next day, but there wasn't a single boat with space. She missed her appointment. This was unnerving and very frustrating.

As a taxpayer I would like to have the ability to use the ferries to access essential services, and return home. I would like to know I can run off to get an import part or see a doctor. I would like to run errands on the mainland without triaging my list to make a certain boat. Additionally, the current reservation system greatly complicates employment opportunities for islanders seeking work on the mainland within the service industry or other professions which may expect flexibility. The unfair bias towards vacationers needs to stop.

Is this new system even legal? It may seem like a silly question but the Ferries are an extension of our highways and federally funded. Who is making the decisions about 30 30 30 10 or whatever? It's paid for by taxpayers and we don't need a reservation to drive on the highway. People who live off the grid.... Don't have cell phones....or older people who can't maneuver thru the new system ...... It's not fair to them. And I believe islanders will suffer over the summer.

I do not understand why the reservations take up 90% of the ferry. I think it's a bit drastic. And from my understanding most ferry workers aren't even following the "be in line 30 min ahead or lose reservation" which means the 10% who chose not to use the system aren't even getting their fair shot at getting on the boat. The system is flawed, and waists time for the islanders who are bein FORCED to use it basically. People gettin charge Jo show fees even if they were in the boat. Then they have to take more time to call an ask for their money back. It's ridiculous to say the least

I believe the new reservation system implemented for the San Juan Islands route favors the tourist. Those of us who live out here full time have been left with few choices on how to travel to and from our home.
The islands are not a destination vacation for us and they are not a destination wedding site. This is our home. We have paid taxes to the highway system for many years and just like the folks heading home to Seattle (or somewhere), we should be able to use the highway system to travel home. People heading to Seattle are never told that there is no more room on the rods for them, so they cannot return home that day. As local residents of the islands, we should have been given priority. I have lived here 32 years and I am disappointed that the ferry system has ignored us in favor of the tourist.
