The main catalyst for rust to occur is water. Rust causes the metal to expand which places stress on the structure. The metal will be weakened and become brittle and flaky. Rust is permeable to air and water, so the metal beneath the rust layer will continue to corrode. SAMSUNG HAS NOT MANUFACTURED THEIR PRODUCTS TO RESIST RUST. And, from the looks of the previous comments, it has been going on for a long time...and they still haven't rectified the problem.

My Samsung washing machine has visible rust around the bleach dispenser and above the detergent and fabric softener dispensers. Who knows what's rusting inside that I cannot see! When I wash light color clothing, they come out of the washing machine with RUST streaks. So clothes that go IN the washing machine just needing to be washed to smell fresh, come OUT with stains! RUST STAINS! So frustrating. My $1000 WASHING machine is now a worthless STAINING machine. It's infuriating! This will be the last Samsung product I purchase unless they make good on this issue.
