After hearing that Mayor Bill Welch of State College, PA is planning on presiding over a public ceremony for same-sex couples on March 29, 2008 to coincide with the start of Pride Week when both gays and straights make efforts to drum up pride for the homosexual agenda, we the undersigned on this petition wish to express our opposition to the ceremony and thereby are asking Mayor Welch to reverse his decision to follow through with the event. In that the event is being planned to occur at the HUB on the main campus of The Penn State University, we are also asking the administration of Penn State to refuse to allow this ceremony to go forward. It is our belief that such a ceremony will make a public statement that same-sex unions of any sort are morally, socially, ethically, and spiritually correct, and will open the door for further similar events across the state and the nation. We also believe that any form of same-sex unions violate the teaching of scripture, will weaken the basic family unit, will divide society and will lead to greater moral and spiritual demise of our culture. This petition will be available until March 25th and then will be presented to Mayor Bill Welch and the Administration of Penn State University prior to the schedule date of the ceremonies on March 29th, 2008.

I am currently finalizing the formal letter of objection to be delivered to the University administration. My focus remains on ensuring that our opposition to the utilization of the HUB for this ceremony is documented properly before the event occurs.

We are currently moving toward the 100 signature threshold required to increase the gravity of our formal request to the university administration. Please ensure your contacts are aware of the deadline for this submission so we can present a unified position to Mayor Welch.

This is completely wrong. tradition matters and we should be upholding the family unit not tearing it down.

Keep our campus neutral. This is not the place for political displays and it goes against what a lot of us believe.

The mayor needs to focus on real town issues instead of pushing his own agenda. Leave the university out of it.

So disappointed in the leadership at psu for even considering this. Very saddening for our community values.
