We the undersigned Concerned Sikhs ask that the issue of same sex marriage within our Sikh Dharma International associated gurdwaras be considered much more deeply before any approval of same sex marriage by Sikh Dharma International.
In light of the Hukamnama issued by the Akal Takht on January 1, 2005, that specifically prohibits same sex marriage, we believe that approval of same sex marriage without significant prior consultation with the SGPC and the Akal Takht would show great cultural insensitivity and severely damage our relationship with the Indian Sikh community. Loss of our MPA school and increased worldwide security threats would be the likely results.
We acknowledge that same sex marriage is legal in the USA and many other countries, and we do not object to anyone’s right to do as they wish as long as others are not harmed.
We also recognize that Sikh Dharma International is a worldwide organization and needs to reach a consensus with all involved parties before acting.
The Siri Singh Sahib Corporation Board of Trustees recently established a Human Rights Commission. We ask that this commission be specifically tasked with engaging with the SGPC and the Akal Takht to reach a consensus on the issue of same sex marriage before any independent action is taken by Sikh Dharma International.

This statement by one of my Siblings of Destiny expresses my opinion: while I do not oppose same sex marriage I oppose divorcing our sangat from the consensus of Sikh Dharma and the authority of the SGPC and the Akal Takhat.
Political and social trends are inappropriate reasons, pressures, and orientations to apply to a well established religion of Sikhism . Therefore I strongly feel this Decision should be postponed and deeply considered as inappropriate.
I feel that people can marry whom ever they want. A Sikh Anand Karaj ceremony does not need to fit into being politically correct.
Though I do not have objections to same-sex marriage per se, weddings in Gurdwara MUST follow the guidelines set by the Akal Takhat and SGPC! There is no choice in the matter, whatever our opinion about the subject! Sikh Dharma International is an extension of the above governing bodies.
We need to work together to decrease people's fears on all sides of these concerns. Keeping our Gurudwara's and all people who bow their heads to the Guru safe is a prime concern. Only through working together with the SGPC, the Akal Takht, and all Interested parties on this Human Rights concern can we come to the conscious way to move forward on this heart felt need.
I oppose this as this will create unneccassary contreversy. If someone wants same sex marriage they can arrange it outside sikh dharmas jurisdication. Why this unnecessary drama? This seems to me another plot to destroy what yogi ji has started!

Sat Nam, It is with regret that I sign this petition as I strongly believe and support the equality and human rights of all people. At present it seems necessary in order to protect the safety of our Sangaat and Gurdwaras all over the world. I believe that a lot of these misunderstandings came from the British colonization of India and it's influence on Sikh Dharma. It is important to bring to light what happened back then, how the British influenced Sikhi and whether that was actually in alignment with the Guru's teachings. Whahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa Whahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh.
