We must protect this ecological gem from fossil fuel exploitation, extraction and damage. I support signatories of the Coast Salish Law treaty, which contains a provision whereby signatories agree to take collective action, "to enforce the protection of the Salish Sea under Coast Salish, Canadian or International Law." This needs to be respected.

The Salish Sea is already compromised and the southern orca pods are dangerously low but this sea is pristine in comparison to what could be in wait through our lack of care for this region. A jewel that urgently needs our protection.

The landscapes, flora and fauna of the Salish Sea are utterly unique and precious. This is an ecosystem of staggering complexity and incredible beauty. We have a huge gift and responsibility.

This area is one of the richest biodiverse marine areas in the world, despite fish and bird populations declining a lot in the last 60 years and perhaps further back. It's under increasing pressure from lots of marine traffic, oil tankers, fishing and population growth. Making it a world heritage site would be a great move

As co-author of the Islands in the Salish Sea, and a resident of one of these islands, I urge you to make the Salish Sea a World Heritage Site. It is the only protected Strait in BC, and thus, has a unique ecosystem found no where else in Canada. It is so sensitive that it is also being applied to for a PSSA designation: Particularly Sensitive Sea Area, who is an International designation. I've lived on the Salish Sea for the past 30 years, and for another 12 years earlier in my life. This place is special, and will not easily heal from damage.
