Pesticide exposure is a major concern for Salinas Valley. This large agricultural community is leaving many of its residence and laborers at risk of pesticide exposure. The three most frequently used pesticides within the Salinas Valley are “Organophosphates, Maneb and Mancozeb (which both contain Manganese), and Methyl bromide.” There are many health effects of pesticide exposure, including hormone disruptions, birth defects, neurological effects, asthma, and cancer. Exposure to pesticides is a key issue that affects the farmworker population of Salines. However, farmworkers are not the only group at risk, residence of the agricultural community are becoming exposed due to to pesticide drift.

Through partnership with local advocates and organizations, we want to bring attention to the use of these harmful pesticides, and assist in the discontinuation of said pesticides within the Salinas Valley.
