Sailboat Bend Civic Association - Stop the Changes!

Respectfully requesting that city officials listen carefully to those petitioning you here and that no changes are made at this time. Such important decisions affect the lives of all Sailboat Bend residents and must representative of everyone. I believe it is your duty to resolve the issues voiced in this petition before moving forward.

The specifics of this plan are murky at best. Preservation of the historic integrity of SBB is something all of us want, but several aspects of achieving and support that goal have not been well explained to the residents. Until we can have a more unified and cooperative approach to this endeavor, we need to halt the progression the ULDR.

Opposed to more restrictions.

Any changes should be subject to in-depth discussions with face-to-face involvement of the residents and homeowners of Sailboat Bend.

Postpone any changes until thorough and comprehensive, post-pandemic in-person discussions with the residents and homeowners of Sailboat Bend once again are possible.

We, the undersigned residents of the Sailboat Bend neighborhood, Fort Lauderdale, Florida strongly oppose any changes to the Unified Land Development Regulations (ULDR) relating to the Sailboat Bend Historic District. We request no further action be taken on this matter until which time the platform for Public Hearings can be in person. Virtual meetings are not a fair environment for Public Hearings on critical issues. We request that the City take no further action with regard to the proposed update Please remove the historical district rules and stop trying to control us by imposing more and more rules and requirements

We as Home Owners in Sailboat Bend have carried an unfair cost burden to maintain our properties while have the most depressed values in Ft Lauderdale’s downtown due to the restrictions.

We have owned multiple properties throughout Fort Lauderdale for the past 25 years. The homes we purchased were all located along the Andrews Ave (east) Powerline (west) Davie Blvd (south) Oakland Park (north) corridor. All were in deplorable condition upon purchase. Through our own hard work, (sweat equity) determination to succeed and a close and respectable working relationships with Code enforcement ( one of the toughest jobs in city government in our opinion) the police department (RAIDERS) numerous City Counsels and Mayors, we are proud to drive by all of those properties today and see beautiful well kept homes. Some would say some of the best in that particular neighborhood. Having sold all of those properties over the past 3 years, these two old tired, retired guys are proud of what we accomplished. Why haven't we sold our property in Saleboat Bend? Because Saleboat Bend is not given the same respect, the same rights afforded every other neighborhood throughout the entire City of Fort Lauderdale. Plain and simple. As president of our homeowners association for 24 years, a thankless but important job trying our best to improve the place we call home, at least we have the help, support and assistance of the Plantation Mayor and City Council. Personally, we think Fort Lauderdale has the best leadership with our current City Council it has ever had in the 25 years we have worked with the city government. Beginning at the top with the hardest working and community caring Mayor we have ever had. We are asking you to please do the right thing and give us the same respect and rights afforded the rest of Fort Lauderdale. You know it is the right thing to do. And then sit back, but work with us and watch what we will do to our neighborhood. There is no other location in this city that can transform like we can and will if you just put aside petty politics and let us run with it. Together we can recreate an amazing, peaceful and beautiful entrance to our Riverw

The City promised our neighborhood we would have a seat at the table from the start of this update and it was finished without our input. Why would they make promises only to break them? What does Fort Lauderdale have against Sailboat Bend? Why are our voices not being heard? This is a shame and has to be stopped until the public gets a chance to meet in person.

I'm disappointed that our City representatives feel the need to rush forward with the proposed, more restrictive, changes to the current ordinance given that so many affected property owners are against it.

I strongly oppose any changes to the UDLR and respectively request said proposed changes be denied. To make the changes without full participation from the property owners from Sailboat Bend is not fair or in the best interest of our community during this time of COVID, thanks.

Our community suffers from a deteriorating infrastructure. Added restrictions to a community thwart the cities ability to fund community projects by discouraging investment in the area, inflated added costs for repairs to retiring property owners, increasing cost to for expensive repairs incured and in some cases those repairs are passed on to renters for increased rent, all due to the very designation of being an historic district. It is the duty of the association and elected offices to determine fare and quitable equality for property owners . Every property only deserves to do what they wish with their property as does any other property owner in Broward county within the law and do afford each owner if they wish to designate their property as historic to do so. The classification of a historic district is exciting and nostalgic provided it does not burden and bankrupt the homeowners of the community. My wife and I love our little old house just the way it is, but we would not burden our neighbors or impose on them our likes are dislikes of how they're supposed to live. We are a very diverse community with many different opinions. But the one thing we have in common is we all love this community and I think most of us would like to grow old and live our days here.

Pls get rid of historic district

A more fair and simpler system is needed, not more red tape and arcane requirements, which are understood and exploited by a select few insiders! Make rules we can follow easily and economically so we can maintain what we have.

I am totally against the current Historic District Ordinance as it puts a unfair burden on my family.

Stop discriminating us, stop treating us as second class citizens. Give us the same property rights as everyone else in the City of Fort Lauderdale

Respectfully, I don't think these changes need to be rammed through before the neighborhood has a chance to safely meet in person to discuss how it wants to move forward as a historical district. Thank you.

I own 3 restricted properties in SB. The "Hysterical District" designation remains a sad costly bureaucratic farce.
