Safe Walking Routes to School - Kennington/Radley

This route is certainly not safe for school children, it floods during the winter months and the paths are unlit. Come on OCC see some sense and stop penny pinching.

I was involved in the removal of free school buses to Matthew Arnold for Kennington pupils. We won the argument on walking the river towpath at the time. This was due to winter flooding mainly.

The water meadow route includes an area subject to river flooding., unsafe for adults, let alone children.

In places this route is unlit and unpaved. Animals graze in the fields and the river path is liable to flooding. - this is not a suitable or safe walk to school.

OCC must show common sense in this matter. Safe routes are a necessity.

I wouldn’t feel safe walking the route over the river so why would a child?

This route is particularly unsafe and unsuitable

The designated "safe" route is dark and unlit in certain stretches during the winter, and parts of the route sometimes flood during the rainy season. The route is the opposite of safe, even for adults.

Over my dead body would I let my son or daughter take this route to school. Absolutely disgusting.

This is clearly not a safe route to school. The area around the river routinely floods during winter and, as others have mentioned, the livestock, dog walkers and busy cycle route make this wholly unsuitable.

This us not a good route to school for kids

This route is unsafe as a route to school. Not only in winter but any time after heavy rain the field and the towpath flood, making it impassable. It is also too far for primary school children to walk.

Outrageous ! Has to be safe !!

The route along the river Thames is unsafe as the river floods most winters, and there are grazing animals which can be aggressive if they feel threatened.

This is not safe for children

Absolutely stupid route, the river floods most winters, and to expect a 5 year old to walk that far and back and do a full day in school, also the children will have no friends in the village so won't be part of the community.

I can’t understand how OCC would expect a 4 year old child to walk that distance twice a day if not any aged primary school child. How would the parents that have to walk their child this distance be able to work. This route is unrealistic for both primary and secondary school children.

The designated route using the towpath is not safe. It is an isolated area which regularly floods. The grazing animals can be unpredictable and have been known to charge at people walking through the meadows.

Please think about the children as if they were yours before making final decisions on safe routes to school. Let's not wait for accident to happen!
