The recent near hit-and-run fatality of Maureen Brown at the intersection of 124th and Shea only highlights the increasing danger of this street. And now BASIS wants to add more congestion to Shea, along with children trying to cross the street to get to the school..... what are they thinking....?

We are very opposed to the school opening at this location. There are other areas that are better suited for a high traffic school. Traffic and safety issues are a huge concern. Not only for the kids that attend Basis, but for the neighboring areas whose kids are at Desert Mountain.

No sidewalks anywhere - Shea is
becoming more and more congested
as is. Two more developments are in the works on 124th and 136th - more
to come. I am also concerned about
emergency vehicles getting stuck and people will not make it to hospital on time - a lot of elderly
neighbors in this area!

Basis is great but this site selection and their total disregard to safety and neighborhood concerns is alarming. Putting this school next to a street that is commonly travelled at 55 mph+ and at the only entry to land locked neighboords with no sidewalks or alternate routes makes no sense. Please pick a different site.

I was shocked to learn of the plans for a school because anyone who visited the site could see immediately that it was completely inappropriate for a school and the related congestion.

Inherent safety risk by building this school right off a major highway! Crazy to even consider a school on this site.

Stopping the construction of the school now is easier than trying to find a solution later after an injury or death occurs from an accident on Shea. Accidents will occur on Shea from this traffic plan. Be known as the Councilmember that stood up for safety.

Dear Scottsdale City Councilmembers, please, as a mother of two, I beg you to come to the corner of 128th & Shea and walk the proposed BASIS site. Walk it in the morning, and walk in the evening when the car lines will be forming. You will see that a school this close to Shea Blvd with 1,500+ students is not only not safe, but will cause enormous congestion in this already VERY congested area. Shea Blvd really is a highway, not a Blvd.
Please walk the site before you allow BASIS to move forward - for the safer of our residents and our children.

Traffic along Shea is 60+ at this point. A horrible rear-end accident is only a matter of time. Dumping this traffic into the neighborhood is no solution. Our city should do a better job of protecting citizens against dangerous traffic flow. You would think this might be a good spot for a charter school. It is not.

As a father of four children, and a staunch advocate of safety, I have a difficult time understanding why the majority of Basis parents are not fearful for the safety of their own children if the school is built at the Shea location. It's one thing to support the Basis institution, it's another to accept the risk that will eventually lead to disaster.
Wake up everyone, protect the students and residential neighborhoods City of Scottsdale, and support a safe location suitable for the schools' needs.

The school site is just a bad idea. There are truncated sidewalks surrounding the area in a mile radius. Kids need to walk and ride bikes in the street. How will kids ever get across 9 lanes of Shea traffic even with a signal? Who builds a school on a 50 MPH road that is 6-9 lanes wide. Shea has more lanes than most highways. 3 stop lights within .8 miles between 124th and 130th. 128th isn't an approved location for a signal and contradicts previous approvals.

This is a ludicrous idea. Who builds a school for children on a major highway? I know, one that wants to be seen because it makes $$$ and doesn't care about the thousands that will be impacted daily let alone the children that will be at risk
