ARE OUR KIDS SAFE? Does having a right to choose a bad school site matter more than a student or citizens life, YES or NO?

All children deserve safe schools.

We all know it is a reckless choice to build here, when several land sites are available. No school in AZ is located next to a 50 mph 6 lane "freeway" with the other cross streets being 2 lanes or paved dirt roads 18 to 20 feet wide. Who allows 1320 kids in a 70,000 SF building as shown in their public Bond offering, that will bring 700 cars twice a day strangling 128th street and stranding the 274 landlocked houses? The reckless behavior shown for a supposed higher learning institution to put a building on Shea for cheap cost and marketing billboard purposes only rather than more modest sites that would not jeopardize the safety of the neighborhood, families, travelers on Shea, their own staff, parents and kids is appalling. Who would allow building a school where it will be inevitable that cars will que on 40,000-cars-per-day Shea?? Not even with the supreme precision of an assembly line format that their traffic and the city's engineers show, can there not be massive delays in kids being picked up and dropped off messing the system up. What about the kids parking in the parking lot which is also the area of the que? Just look at the Basis Ahwatukee, 136th Street, Tucson campuses as all disasters for examples. Check the police and traffic records. Backing up onto Shea is going to be a given no matter what they do. 700 cars? 350 Cars? The turn off from Shea is just too dangerous. There is actual historical proof of how terrible Basis sites are for traffic and safety. It is a common theme so we hope the City Council does not also fall for this trap as well. Oh yea, where are they going to park?? 164 parking spots? 600 high school -300 driving age. Parents, visitors, all hands on deck assembly's, basketball games?? What a failed plan. If it wasn't the 2013 charter school state law that they are trying to hide behind, but does not supersede the City Council's authority, this would not even get get off the drawing board. Lots of bikes and elderly/teenage drivers are active in the vicinity.

Who is going to be held responsible when a child gets hurt? Bad idea to locate a school this close to busy road.. No school is more important than a safe school. If we as adults don't protect our kids, who will?

Shame on BASIS for trying to still go through with building on this site. They have no morals. They don't care about a neighborhood. If they cared they would realize they should be looking for another site. With all the negative issues that have arisen how do they not see that this is not their so called "perfect" site. Again, shame on BASIS and the parents who support this site. They just want their child to attend BASIS. BASIS just wants their name on Shea Blvd. Neighborhood wants safety and less traffic, not more. Book smart only. You can't teach common sense.

Safely is big concern for everyone. Site is inappropriate for a school of this size.

I support safe streets and spaces for our children!

This site BASIS picked is not suitable for a +1,200 student school and is unsafe for the community at large. Traffic engineers have already indicated a back up on Shea. There are already backups due to Desert Mountain High School, Mountain Side Middle School and Anasazi Elementary School which are all nearby and impacting traffic every school day.

I feel the proposed location of this school is dangerous for the students and the local community as a whole. Greater community involvement and planning should have been sought before even considering this site.

Shea Blvd. between 136 and 118th Sts is a very high traffic area with many cars exceeding 55mph. It is too dangerous to have a school so close.

There is no way that site can handle the 1200 kids being dropped off and picked up everyday. There is already a school bus stop there, where are they going to go

It will be too conjested in this residential area. Hours of parents lined up trying to pick up or drop off student.or students trying to get through the traffic of Shea etc.Relocate in empty reservation area by Pima.

Please consider traffic for the Sea boulevard

I oppose this location due to safety issues on Shea Blvd.

May have sounded like a good idea at the beginning, but this is just an unsafe situation being proposed.

This site BASIS picked is unsafe. Traffic engineers have already indicated back up on Shea. There is already backup due to Desert Mountain High School. One way in and out of the school in a landlocked neighborhood. Unsafe side streets not up to standards with no curbs and width well below standard streets. No sidewalks will cause kids to walk in narrow streets. safety of residents compromised due to congestion causing increase response time from emergency calls.

Keep this safe location out of our neighborhood!

I am very concerned about the safety issues the BASIS school traffic will generate. As the mother of a type one diabetic, we have had to call 911 numerous times. In such emergencies, minutes are critical! I dread the day one would need to make that call and there is school congestion in every direction. I am a retired public school teacher (45 years in the trenches). I know, in theory, the traffic flow plan looks attractive, but in practice I also know drop off lines get backed up for a great number of reasons. In this location, backups WILL have catastrophic consequences!!
