Not the correct site for the school. Traffic 800-1,000 more vehicles on Shea - wrong!

The building of this school will negatively impact my living at 130th St. and Shea blvd.

Detrimental to community and unsafe! The current location on 136Th & Via Linda already causes unsafe traffic conditions & pedestrian crossing hazards.

please make sure the neighbors also have a voice in this process

A representative at Basis has also called St Anyhony's Episcopal church, asking if it would be ok for people to park on their lot for overflow. Basis plans to have an insufficient parking lot and this is unacceptable! The location alone is wrong on all accounts.

Very crowded and unsafe location for a school.

It will defenetly effect the traffic in the area...already a problem on the 124st.

Read this Wall Street Journal Article… "A Dangerously Good Charter School" Arizona is becoming something of a California suburb as Golden State retirees, young families and workers move next door in search of cheaper housing, well-paying jobs and better schools. In 2014 alone, 22,000 Californians relocated to Arizona—more than the number of newcomers from all other states combined. The influx of new residents is inciting a backlash against growth in the upscale Phoenix suburb of Scottsdale, where denizens have mobilized to block the expansion of one of the highest-performing schools in the nation. Given that the school is a charter, the “community safety advocates” are being cheered on by local public schools. In 2015, U.S. News & World Report ranked the Scottsdale school run by the Basis charter-school operator, grades five through 12, as the top charter and second-best public high school in the country. All Basis students take AP classes, and 96% pass their exams, compared with 57% nationwide. More than 90% of students scored proficient in math on state tests while only about half of students districtwide do. The school is particularly well known for its science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and foreign-language programs, which include Mandarin and Latin. Like most charter schools, Basis Scottsdale doesn’t offer teacher tenure. Teachers are paid bonuses based on the number of students who pass AP exams with high scores. The school randomly selects students by lottery and has drawn many middle-class Asian families to the area with the promise of a free, top-flight education. There are nearly 1,200 students on the wait list. The Basis Scottsdale school’s current facility, which holds 740 students, is cramped. It has no gym or playground. Safety is controllable. Obviously everybody wants safety, who doesn't? The greater challenge is to get the quality of education and BASIS has that. Instead of saying "Its too unsafe, don't do it" think about how do we make it safe and allow our children to obtain an education that allows them to succeed. Seems a bit short sighted....

That is simply not true.

It is rated the second best school in the NATION and I know the people at Basis are willing to spend in order to make improvements to the road to accommodate traffic. You should see the types of universities these kids get into, not to mention the scholarships they receive. I think I read that class of 2014 received over $22mm in college grants, which comes out to $150k per kid. Pity to see such a great FREE educational opportunity get thrown away. What about the educational IMPACT to our kids...

As a City of Scottsdale council member you pledged an Oath of Office. In part, that oath binds you to " faithfully and impartially discharge the duties" of your office. Since there is not opposition to education or Basis Schools but rather only a concern for the safety of school children and the general Scottsdale community, it would seem difficult to understand how the council, impartially, could come to any decision other than the 128th and Shea Blvd. proposed location is UNSAFE. Sometimes doing THE RIGHT THING is hard but that does not change the fact you have to make those hard decisions. The long term fate and safety of many are in your hands. Thank you.

Scottsdale, I hope you do the right thing - it is not about money all the time- Please consider the safety of our kids and the residents. This is the wrong area for this. Why cant they find a commercial area?

The proposed facility lacks infrastructure to keep neighborhoods nearby safe. At a minimum there needs designated sidewalks fir the traffic flow changes.

Our streets here are just too narrow. It is difficult to pass other cars on the road as it is. It will be a very dangerous situation when you ad pedestrians and multiple cars.

I am not opposed to BASIS building a larger facility but I am opposed to the location for traffic and safety reasons

What is really going on here? A city being told by a private for profit school what they will and will not do! Step up Scottsdale and do what's right for your residents.

A school should absolutely not be built in this neighborhood!! There are many better options.
