Safety for pedestrians on Massapoag Ave

My greatest concern is the safety of the crosswalk at the rotary by the beach and the crossing to the community center.

I would love to see a designated bike path around the lake.

People drive insanely fast on this road while my family and I use it everyday. I have a six month old baby and sometimes it's scary during the busier times of the day. The sidewalks are not sufficient. There are times where we have to walk right on the street because there is barley a side walk.

A Cape Cod berm will be a much wiser choice than vertical granite curbing for the section of Massapoag Ave where we live because of our driveway and our neighbor's driveway when we leave our houses, and for plowing and delivery trucks and other service vehicles.

Current signs marking pedestrian crosswalks and speed limits are woefully inadeqate - usually blocked by trees, bushes, etc. The town's road side vegetation management seems to be inadequate along Massapaog Ave. i would strongly support speed humps at crosswalks.

As I have said in earlier posts, we need to focus and have a single voice. As I see it, he 1st issue is the vertical granite curb vs the Cape Cod berm, which by the way currently runs down the lake side of Massapoag. The 2nd has to do with the sidewalk/bike lane discussion and stop signs at the rotary. These are construction related and imminent. The signage, stripes and other traffic calming ideas are relevant but may take time and focus from our primary concerns. They can be addressed later. Finally, on the issue of the view of the lake, there was an unwritten tradition for many years that other than plants and shrubs, fences would not impede the view of the lake. It was never codified and obviously not enforceable. I am saddened by the solid plastic fences that not only block our collective views but those of the owners as well. Creating a by-law addressing the issue might help moving forward could not be retroactively enforced.

Sorely needed improvement.

I like the idea of stop signs or cross walks at each intersecting street. I would like the grass sidewalks removed with wider smooth sidewalks for walking and if bike lanes can be painted as well that is the best solution. I don't know if there is enough space for both and still have traffic going in each direction, but I think that is the safest solution for everyone.

I run and bike along Lake Massapoag, and find the road to be terribly dangerous. We treasure and enjoy the lake and the beauty of our town and ask that we make this highlight of our community safe for runners, bikers, walkers, local residents with home nearby and most of all, for our children.

For many years, I used to jog around the lake every Saturday morning. This enhanced my quality of life as a Sharon resident.

I use the roads to bike and run several times a week.

It is very difficult to see the pedestrian crosswalk at end of Arboro. It needs to be better marked. Cars often do not stop when I am trying to cross the street to get to the lake. Many children use the beach at bottom of Arboro as well.

I am more comfortable biking on the sidewalk because Massapoag is just too dangerous!

Both this road and others in Sharon must be made safer for pedestrians, biking and the cars that steer around these folks.

I am a runner and feel particularly at risk on Massapoag Ave during the winter. Snow makes the road even more narrow and the sidewalks are often not passable.

People need to pay attention to the yeld signs on the rotary. There is going to be an accident there some day.

I am not sure what is customary with bike lanes, but it would be my hope that they could be shared with runners. Sidewalks an often be tricky for runners to navigate as they slope up/down at each residential driveway - so it is often easier to run in the street. I would be disappointed if runners were not allowed in the bike lanes.

I am a cyclist, using this road often. It could be made safer for all.

I also run along this stretch. How can the proposed bike trail around the lake be incorporated into this discussion?
