Safer Mobile Mardi Gras

I don't come downtown, to Mardi Gras, anymore, for fear of being injured!

I support this petition because I was slammed in the face really hard on two nights in a row from a thrower on the float. My then 4 year old granddaughter was also hit in the face really hard one night from a thrower as well! Something needs to be done because I plan on suing the entire organization if I get seriously injured by any object that is either prohibited or thrown in such a way as to become a projectile! Mardi Gras needs to be safe for all to enjoy.

I have heard about how fun it used to be going to these events. When I first moved to the South, I hoped to go experience the event. I started hearing about how people would laugh when someone had been injured. It had become intentional. Trying to out-do others to see who can be more "creative" on throws. Yet, some of those same people would be angry if similar things happened to them. My children live back West. One had been excited to see pictures from the museum display, and hear about the history. Wanting to come to visit, so we could go together, I explained the issue with needing to take precautions. Plans were cancelled.

No beads.....

Getting hit by throws is 100% why I no longer attend Mardi Gras. The beautiful floats and good cheer are not enough to overcome hesitation.

Heavy penalties for those malicious actors, please!

I am all for these rules ever since I sustained several crushed nose bones and 3 large gashes on my nose from parade throws at a Mississippi Christmas parade. I was hit with those large round 2 for a dollar lollipops. It was awful and bloody...thank God I was hit and not my 3 year old. My concern was it was hurled like a baseball...not tossed as it should have been. We have not been to parade since that expensive experience :( With all these Mobile accidents too...something needs to change.

I always get hit at every parade. I am always guarding my grandchildrens face, which makes them mad cause they can't see. My oldest granddaughter was hit in face when she was younger. Which made her bleed freaking her out. I know the members do not purposely try to hurt anyone. But maybe they can throw to the crowd like they were throwing to the young ones in their families.

I was hit in the face by about 20 beads together drenched in alcohol. And hit with around 6 hoopla hoops causing a black eye. There is absolutely no crowd control. I asked a child to please stop hitting me in the face with 3 hoopla hoops she had around neck only to be told by her drunk father that he was going to beat my a#@, and if I didn't want to get hit in the face I shouldn't come to Mardi gras, I let him know straight up that if he touched me again that he was going to have a serious problem. He then informed me that he came from a long line of gangsters, which I then informed him that I come from a long line of hells angels and outlaws. I get it people like to drink. But come on, alcohol should not be allowed. Because the drunker they are, the worse the amount of fights there are. I really do not care who doesn't like this comment because it's getting so bad adults don't want to go anymore. I went 1 day and I will never go back

Yeah, totally. I hate catching stuff at a parade. I'm glad someone finally stood up for those of us that can't figure out how to stand farther back from the barricade or stay home. God bless you, sir.

Parading societies need to be held accountable.

Seems that some of the drunken men I notice we're doing things pretty strong and there were children around if you want to keep your family friendly we're going to have to address that I believe

I actually got hit in the head by a bundle of heavy unseparated beads on year. This year it was a swollen knuckle from a bundle of beads. They are throwing way too hard and I've seen children get hit hard enough with throws to make them cry.

I was hit in the face with a large bag of beads that were thrown very hard. Now I am afraid of being injured at a Mobile parade. I fully support this petition! Tina Saraland

I was also hit in the face this year with a bag of beads. I have the pictures to prove it. Something must be done.

This is a VERY reasonable and common sense request. The safety of parade attendees, especially children, should be a top priority.

I was hit in the face last may at the parade for the commissionings parade for the USS Mobile. The last float in the parade and the guy on top back of the float threw a large garbage bad full of stuff and hit me. I was treated at the scene at St Francis and st. Joseph's and had to be carried to hospital be of possible stroke and concussion.
