I ride a bicycle on this street on an almost daily basis, and often with my two young (under 10) kids. The street isn't safe enough for us. A few simple improvements can protect lives without causing much inconvenience for car drivers.

This is a well-designed compromise between the need for safer infrastructure for cyclists/pedestrians, faster service for bus riders (not to mention easier navigation for bus drivers!), more predictable traffic patterns for drivers, and in general a massive upgrade to an important commercial and residential corridor. The only thing wrong with this plan is that the bike lanes won't connect to any equivalent infrastructure on Connecticut! :-( Even so, we should improve our built infrastructure and streets every chance we get. This is a huge step forward for Columbia Rd!

DC needs to stop prioritizing cars and work to improving life for pedestrians, bikers, and transit riders. This project is a great step in the right direction, and I sincerely hope the DC Council moves forward with redesigning Columbia Road.

With a bike lane included, i would increase the amount of times I am likely to travel here and spend money. Cars parked all day dont spend money. Invest in people not cars

I bike on Columbia Rd often and the inconsistent bike lanes make weaving around cars dangerous. This street would benefit greatly from a protected bike lane and be heavily utilized!

This road is not comfortable or safe for any users. It is a very important bus route, but bus riders do not have the reliable, timely service they deserve. Similarly, cyclists, who are reducing emissions and congestion by choosing to bike, deserve a dedicated lane that is not squished between car doors and moving cars. Users of all modes of transportation, drivers included, will be safer with the new street design.

I live in, and am on the Mobility Committee of, ANC 2B08. My apartment is near the intersection of 18th and U Sts. This means that the 42/43 buses are one of my options for going downtown and if I want to bike to a neighborhood like Mount Pleasant I am using Columbia Road. Bus-only lanes, protected bike lanes, and an expanded pedestrian plaza at Unity Park would make my life significantly safer, more convenient, and simply better.

I live in Columbia Heights/Petworth and frequently take the H4 to Cleveland Park. I also use my bike to commute to and from work and around the city. A dedicated and protected lane on Columbia Rd would make transferring to/from 14th St significantly faster and safer, and dedicated space for buses would greatly increase reliability on lines that serve as a crucial link across town. As someone who frequently walks to and from various restaurants, shops, and parks around my neighborhood, I also welcome expanding pedestrian access. I strongly support this project.

I live near Columbia Rd and this would make everything I do so much easier and safer! I would spend more time out in my neighborhood and feel more inclined to shop and eat nearby.
